*The colour descriptions used are those given in the four Scales of Colour of the Golden Dawn Tradition. These ‘are based on clairvoyant investigation, but experience shows them to vary somewhat from person to
person. .... many astral colours have no correspondence in physical pigment -- the closet approximation being in coloured light....” (G. Knight, A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism p.226). These colours also were
adopted by the Servants of the Light (SOL) and used on their websites and affiliated websites.
** and *** The hex codes for colours were initially taken from the Servants of the Light (SOL) website code for the version of the Tree found here: http://www.servantsofthelight.org/QBL/Index.html. The initial pointer
to the SOL websafe TREE colours came via a thank you noted posted here: http://www.lelandra.com/tarotbook/TreeofLifeColors.htm. Likewise the graphics for various combination colours (e.g., 'white flecked gold,'
etc ) also are used with permission, courtesy of the SOL.
A degree of subjectivity entered into colour specification for the Sephiroth and the Paths, even with the excellent guidance from SOL. For instance, what really is the difference between the 'Deep Violet' of Chesed in
Atziluth and the 'Violet Purple' of Hod in Atzuilth. In that instance, the SOL site had specified the same colour code for both (660066), and I agreed. However, it's worth noting that some changes were made in the hex
codes in the list below. In many cases, the SOL hex codes agreed with the colours I had available in Keynote for Mac, but not for all of them (e.g., FF82EE for 'Pure Violet'). Consequently, I substituted what seemed to me
be the closest and best available colour, (e.g., CC33FF for 'Pure Violet'). Additionally, in some cases, I chose a hex code I thought worked better than the one specified. (e.g., 66CCFF for 'Pure soft blue' rather than
'6666FF'). Even so, these colours are substantially the same, or close to the same as in the SOL Tree and are not a philosophical departure, as with the colours used by Wm. Grey/RJ Stewart or the Arum Solis. That
would remain further grounds for investigation. Dariel 12 March 2011
