Q Marks
1. a) The fuel cost functions for three thermal plants in $/h are given by
7

Find the optimal dispatch and the total cost in $/h for the above thermal plants when
the total load is 1000MW. Assume the initial value of λ=6.0$/MWh and the
following generator limits

b) The fuel-cost functions of two thermal plants in $/h are given by 7

The total load is 415MW. Determine the optimal dispatch of generation. Assume the
initial value of λ=7.0 $/MWh

2. a) You have been given 3 electric power generating units. Clearly write down steps to 6
apply unit commitment to these units for 3 hours. In first hour the power demand is
200MW , In second hour the power demand is 400MW, In 3rd hour the power
demand is 300MW. CLO2
b) In applying unit commitment and economic dispatch why do you require reserve

generation capacity

3 a) Differentiate between abc and dq frame of reference, how these are interrelated 3
b) In the circuit of figure below let
R=0.250 Ω , L=15 mH , v(t)=150 sin(377t+⍺) . Determine the current response after 5

axis transient reactance 𝑋𝑑′ = 0.3 𝑝. 𝑢 is connected to an infinite bus through a
purely reactive circuit as shown in figure below. Reactances are marked on the
diagram on a common system base. The generator is delivering a real power 𝑃𝑒 =
