Portfolio Artifact Description: Truss Bridge-Using basic drawing tools that everyone

has access to, to create a basic drawing.

What you learned: 

Practicing my skills in engineering. I already knew how to use the basic drawing tools in

Microsoft PowerPoint, so this gave me an incentive to be creative with my engineering

side. Using the lines given you can create lines that should meet equally so the

structure is created with balance. I learn a few new tricks that the professor pointed out.

I learn to use shift to make sure the lines are straight. You will notice when the lines do

not meet correctly there will be red line that shows you are not aligned properly. This is

a crucial basic design where the whole construction can fail if things are not well

balanced. With the simple lines and gradients, and thickness of lines, and texture I

created a Truss bridge, that not only look appealing but most importantly it is sturdy.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future: 

This is a great start to plan out a project for engineering a basic design with basic

drawing tools. Using something that everyone has access to, will allow many students

use their critical thinking to draw out and reliable working design. This could be a group

project done in the classroom if the project were big but, a small simple design only

needs oneself or a partner or two. The concept is great for beginners as well as more

advanced students to construct and plan out a design. I was using basic lines to

construct a bridge, but I knew my hurdles, that the lines need to meet at a certain point

of the bridge If I want to bridge to stay balanced and functional and most importantly,

being safe.

In a classroom setting students can learn how to use this simple method to build

themselves a Ferris wheel, or pond aerator windmills, or green houses. This will teach

students how to properly use their math skills in measurements and leveling in
engineering. Preplanning before construction in crucial for precise measurements.

Students will draw out exact measurements they will need for a structure to keep hold

by using basic drawing structure on their computers. The beginning stages of

engineering and constructions with lines and then panels and then walls and, or heavier

materials to build a miniature version of a real structure.
