Label
 Label is a tag that provides various information
regarding a garment to help the consumer for garment
selection.
 It also provides different instructions about the garments.
 Expensive labels are woven in narrow jacquard loom
whereas the cheaper labels are printed on woven fabric.
 Labels are sewn to the garment using sewing machine.

Classification of Label

According to Function, there are mainly two types of label-

1. Main label
2. Sub label

Again sub labels are four types

 Care label
 Size label
 Price label
 Compositions label

Main label:

 This label is the identity of a buyer.


 No garment is ordered by any buyer without main label.
 It can be woven (most of the cases) or printed
 Sewn at C.B. neck (Tops), Inner Yoke (Shirt).
 Mainly contains brand/buyer name, brand logo, brand
establishment year, trade mark etc.

Mani Label

Size label:

 This label simply shows the size of the garment.


 This may be woven or printed label.

Composition label:

 This label simply shows the fiber composition of fabric.


 It also shows the fabric construction.

Care Label

 This label includes wash care and ironing instruction.


 Mainly care labels are attached at side seam. But
sometimes it is attached in the neck line.
 Normally care instructions are printed on the label.

Care Label Code or Symbol

 To communicate wash care instructions to the wearer a


set of care symbols are used in wash care labels.
 Some instructions to perform care of garments perfectly
is expressed by symbols and this symbols called Care
label code.
 The label on which this care code is attached called care
label.

Washing Condition
Code Description

950C Can be washed up to 950C

600C
Can be washed up to 600C

Hand washing but not in washing


machine.

Can not be washed.

Ironing Condition
Code Description

Ironing in cold state (1100C)

Ironing in cold state (1500C)

Ironing in cold state (2000C)

Can not be ironed.

Bleaching Condition

Dry Cleaning Condition

Dry cleaning is allowed in any

Drying Code Description

Condition Tumble drying is allowed.

Tumble drying is not allowed.

Drying in hanging state is

Integrated label

 Integrated label is combination of more than one label.


 Information of two or more different label are showing
in a single label.

 Sew on label
 Iron on label

Motif

 To increase the attractiveness of garment a special


component named motif is attached on outside of
garments.
 Some times motif contain company name, trade mark or
various kinds of symbols and in this case it is different to
make difference between label and motif.
 Most of the motifs are designed by embroidering and
some cases printed design.

Difference between Label & Motif


Label Motif
Inside of garments. Outside of garments.
For functional / decorative purposes. For decorative purposes.

May be woven / printed. Most common is embroidered.
