Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 2 – Understanding Social Sciences

1. Activity Description

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To explore different theoretical concepts useful for the contextualization of the Social
Science as a teaching resource.

The activity consists of:

Collaboratively, create an Online presentation of different Social Science fields, to


develop it, follow these steps:

Step 1: From the book “Philosophy of Social Science: A New Introduction” by Nancy
Cartwright, & Eleonora Montuschi that you will find in Unit 1 suggested bibliographic
references. From the articles presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of the book, select two
you would like to read and analyze.

Step 2: Post in the collaborative the names of your selected articles to avoid
repetition.

Step 3: Read the selected articles and from each one write a Summary. Consider the
following recommendations:

• It should be around 1/3 of the original text.


• Your summaries should present only the major ideas, not the minor ones.
• Quotes are possible if they are not abused.
• It should state the writer's intention throughout the summary.

• The text should be paraphrased to avoid plagiarism.
• The number of paragraphs should be limited

Post the summaries in the collaborative forum for your classmates to read and
comment on, at least two weeks before the due date for this task.

Step 4: Critically read your classmates’ summaries and comment on at least one of
the summaries from each one. To keep your comments critical and relevant, based
on the summary, you can answer questions such as:

• Does the summary include the identification information?


• Do I get the main idea from it? What is the main idea?
• Which field of social sciences is it related to?
• Is the summary logically structured?
• Does it contain any English misuse of any kind?

Step 5: Collaboratively present all the summaries in an online presentation. For this,
you can use any tool preferred by the collaborative group (among the options: Prezzi,
Canva, Genially, or PPT. on Drive)

For the creation of the Collaborative presentation consider the following


recommendations:

• Presentations should include only the most representative information from


each of the summaries presented by the collaborative group members.
• Slides should not contain a big number of words on each one.
• The slides should display images that are related to the information on each of
them.
• Remember that the link should be open for public display.
• It must evidence the main information from the summaries, should be
presented in an organized, creatively, and logically structured way.

Step 6: Put together all the group participants’ summaries in a PDF document,
including in this the public link to the presentation and a Reference page following
APA style.

presentation from the information summarized by all the members of the
collaborative group.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidences, consider the following:


Individually, each group member has to post two summaries (one bye each article
read) on time for the rest of the group to be able to read and comment on them.
The summaries must be written according to the given guidelines.

• All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

• In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product in
the environment indicated by the teacher.

• Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

• Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.
