Background of the Study

This is the description that leads the reader to understanding the research

questions and appreciate why they are asked (Creswell, 2013).

Implied Parts:

(Narrative Hook)

(Justification)

 Related studies (around five only, a there is one separate chapter for all

related studies and literature)

 Gap

 (Statement of the Problem) (brief, narrative form)

 (Purpose)

 (Significance of the study, brief only and generalized, as there I a separate

writeup section for this)

Statement of the Problem (enumerated)

This section contains the purpose statement and the research question(s).

Significance of the Study

Determines the audience who will benefit from a study of the problem and

explains how exactly will the results be significant to them.

This chapter of the paper presents the review of related literature, the

conceptual framework, the research hypotheses, and the definition of terms.

Theoretical Framework

This presents a theory or several theories to which the concepts of thsstudy

are underpinned. In other words, this section presents theories that you can later use

to explain the phenomenon of your study and the findings you will present in Chpater

IV.

 Enumerate first the theories

 Discuss each theory briefly without forgetting to mention the proponent of the

theory (theorist) an the year the theory was posited.

 Discuss briefly how this/these theory/ies apply to your reearch.

Conceptual Framework

This is a discussion of thehow the theory applies to your research, by

presenting the variables/concepts of your study. The legal basis for conducting the

study may be presented at the outset.

This is a discussion that connects variables of the study with lines

(correlations) or arrows (cause-effect relationships).

This must occupy one entire page and must be the only content of this page.

It can be in an IPO format, IV-DV format., etc.

Research Hypothesis(es)

A hypothesis is a prediction of the possible outcomes of a study

(Fraenkel&Wallen, 2009).

Hypotheses are statements in quantitative research in which the investigator

makes a prediction or a conjecture about the outcome of a relationship among

attributes or characteristics (Creswell, 2012)

Set your level of significcance (usually .05 level of significance /alpha, α)

Assumptions –may be formulated if no hypothesis will be tested

An assumption is a self-evident truth which is based upon a known fact or

phenomenon. It is neither tested nor defended.

Definition of Terms

Variables and sub-variables or values in the title and in the conceptual

framework are defined, except very common variables like grade level, gender, school

type where the values are indicated in the framework itself.

Define the key terms first, conceptually, and then operationally.

Terms defined are arranged alphabetically. The term defined is typed bold and

then followed by a period. The definition follows immediately in the same line of the

term being defined.

Example:

Respondent. Someone who answers a given question. In this research, it

refers to the Grade 12 students of the academic strands in Speaker Eugenio Perez

National Agricultural School.

Related Literature and Studies

This is a written summary of journal articles, books, and other documents that

describes the past and current state of information on the topic of your research study.

Studies must be no later than five years from this year. There is no need to separate

the foreign from the local literature.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the research design, the sample, the instruments, the

intervention (if research is experimental), the data collection procedure, and the plan

for data analysis.

Research Design

Research designs are the specific procedures involved in the research process:

sampling, data collection, and data analysis.

Identiyfy the design to be used, and then define it, citing your source of the

definition. Then, explain how it fits your research or why it is the design adopted for

your research.

Duration and Locale of the Study

This must contain the place where the study will be conducted, and the

inclusive dates as to the start of data collection and end of data analysis and

interpretation.

Describe the locale in detail. A map may be included to show the actual

location of the research site.

Population and Participants

(Note: If the design is Experimental using non-human subjects, use the subheading

Test Animals or Test Plants, whichever is applicable)

The first step leading to the process of collecting quantitative data is to

identify the people and places you plan to study. This involves determining which

Telephone No.: +6375•955•5258

group of people/participants/est subjects/species will you study, who, specifically,

these people are, and how many of them you will need to involve. Specify the

sampling formula used in determining the sample size and the actual sample size.

Materials and Procedures

<Discuss first the Instrumentation>

This refers to the instruments to be used in data collection: laboratory

equipment and research instruments like questionnaire or data gathering tool to be

constructed, validated and administered (Creswell, 2012).

Discuss how the instrument came to be. Was it you who made it? Was it

adopted? Was it partly maede and adopted? If adopted, cite the originator/

author/source. If interview is used, what recording equipment was used? (casettte tape

recorder, smarthphone recorder, etc)

Discuss the parts of the instrument and how the instrument was validated and

proven reliable.

<Discuss the procedures in preparing the intervention if experimental>

Describe whose permission will be sought and arrangements to make to

administer instruments. Describe when instruments will be administered and who will

administer them. Add details on arrangements and administration of instruments, if

needed.

<Discuss here the procedures of data collection)

xvii
SPEAKER EUGENIO PEREZ NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL
Roxas, San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Philippines
Telephone No.: +6375•955•5258

If non experimental: Discuss the preparations prior to actual data collection,

like if there was a simulation or a pilot test, trainings or rehearslas of interviews

conducted, etc.

If experimental: Clearly and completely describe the materilas to be used and

how the intervention will be/was implemented, such that the reader can replicate the

intervention. In experimental designs, describe what happens in comparison group.

Discuss how any percent is the retrival rate of the instrument (if survey design was

used)

Data Analysis

This section indicates how the data will be analyzed and reported. It should

specify the qualitative and/or quantitative methods that will be used in analyzing the

data gathered for the research.

Present them either by stating what tools will be used for every research

question,, or by stating the statistical tool first and then mention which research

questions shall be analyzed using the statistical test/tool.

Chapter IV
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

In reporting the results, the researcher stays close to the statistical findings

without drawing broader implications or meaning from them. Further, this section

includes summaries of the data rather than the raw data (e.g., the actual scores for

individuals). A results section include tables, figures, and detailed explanations about

the statistical results

Results

<Make a subheading for each SOP>

(Subheading title must be based on the first question in the SOP)

This includes results relevant to the first question of the research or the first

variable/set of variables of the study. The narrative tests must be followed by either a

table or a graph. Mention only the group that shows the majority and the least group.

Table numbers must be continuous regardless of the chapter where the

previous or preceding table/s is/are placed.

Folow the format of the American PsychologicalAsociation (APA) 7 th edition

in constructing a table and in writing the results.

(Another Subheading title here must be

based on the second question in the SOP, if at all)  If the subheading takes more
than one line, the subheading must be typed bold in single space and msut only
occupy the left half of the page, while the remaining parts of the subtitle must be
typed below
<The writeup for each subheading must follow the same rules applied for the

first subheading >
