ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY: ROLE MODEL ESSAY INSIGHT

You have to write a 4 paragraphs essay defending the chosen role model (the same from your
oral presentation). The paragraphs have to be distributed as follows:
1. Paragraph 1: Introduction. You mention superficially the characteristics of your
arguments but don't give many details. The introduction must have minimum 6
sentences:
● Hook. A catching sentence that opens creatively your essay. You can use a
question, a fact, a quote or statistic that are related to your role model and thesis.
● Transition: A sentence that connects the hook with the background information.
● Background information: Describe your role model. Mention his studies, work
history, hobbies or any information you consider relevant to prove your thesis.
● Thesis. This is the central point of your essay. The thesis must contain a core
idea and two prongs. Follow this example: “Pepito Perez has transformed the
concept of education throughout his career due to his level of discipline and his
desire for continuous learning”. In that thesis, “Pepito Perez has transformed the
concept of education throughout his career” is the core idea that explains that
you think your role model is special and unique. Then, “due to his level of
discipline and his desire for continuous learning” these are the two prongs,
basically two reasons why your role model is a positive one.
2. Paragraph 2. This paragraph has to focus on the first prong (reason) you mentioned in
the thesis, in the example thesis, the first prong (reason) is “his level of discipline”.
Paragraph 2 needs to start giving examples to prove that he is disciplined (as many as
you want). Then you need to mention a counterpoint which is an argument against his
discipline. Obviously, you also have to refute the counterpoint and defend your role
model.
3. Paragraph 3. This paragraph has to focus on the second prong (reason) you mentioned
in the thesis, in the example thesis, the second prong (reason) is “his desire for
continuous learning”. Paragraph 3 needs to start giving examples to prove that he loves
learning (as many as you want). Then you need to mention a counterpoint which is an
argument against her desire for learning. Obviously, you also have to refute the
counterpoint and defend your role model.
4. Paragraph 4. The last paragraph is for concluding your essay. This paragraph needs to
have minimum 5 sentences as follows:
● Restate the thesis. This sentence has to paraphrase the thesis you mentioned in
the introductory paragraph. THE SAME IDEA, BUT IN TOTALLY DIFFERENT
WORDS.
● Restate the counterpoints and refutations. Again SAME IDEAS, BUT
DIFFERENT WORDS.
● Final thought. A last idea that impacts the reader and finally convinces him/her
that your role model is a positive one.
