Google Hangout Chat

Start Using Google Chats: You can start using Google Chat on your computer by using the Chrome app
or extension from the Chrome Web Store, through Gmail. You can also access Google Chat on your Android or iOS
device by downloading the Chat app from the app store. Once you have clicked the Chat icon in any of these options, you
can search for people you want to communicate with by first and last name in the Search for people bar.

With Chat up and running, you can instantly communicate with students and teachers through real-time text messages on
any class assignment! (Keep in mind, all Chat users must have a Google account to participate.)

Archive /Delete a Chat

If you want a message to be hidden from your immediate Chat window, but you do not want to delete the message
entirely, you can archive the message :
- by clicking the Gear icon at the top of that conversation’s chat window.
- Next, select Archive / Delete

When new messages are sent or received in an archived Chat, the conversation will be placed back in your Chat list so
that you can give a timely reply to continued conversations while still maintaining a clean and organized active chat list.

Chat Notifications
You can mute Chat notifications on your mobile device by clicking on the three dots in the top right of your chat window
and then selecting the muted bell. (snooze notifications)
You could also swipe right over a conversation on your mobile app to find the mute option.
Muting a conversation will not prevent you from seeing messages in a conversation. Instead, muting a conversation
makes it so that you aren’t notified every time someone contributes to the chat. This can help keep the battery of your
device full and healthy.
