1. To evaluate is defined as to judge the value or worth of someone or something. Evaluation refers to the
process by which a material or textbook to be specific is reviewed and assessed according to a set of
criteria. Check-lists are developed for this purpose. It follows the objectives.

Adaptation refers to changes the teacher made to the material to make it more suitable to a particular
class. Changes could include adding or dropping activities, changing activities, replacing topics or
contents.

2. There are three different types of material evaluation:

 Pre-use evaluation –it refers to evaluation of materials before its proper dissemination for use. It ensures
that the contents are all set and is ready to be used in a class. It involves making prediction about the
potential value of materials on people who use them. In addition, it is often impressionistic, subjective
and unreliable since a teacher scans a book quickly to gain an impression about its value.

 In-use evaluation - It measures the value of the materials whilst observing or using them. It is more
reliable than pre-use evaluation since it makes use of measurement rather than prediction. It can also
measure long term effects such as durable learning and application.

 Post-use evaluation - It is the most important and valuable type of evaluation because it can measure the
actual effects of the materials on the users and provide reliable information. It can measure short term
effects such as motivation, impact achievability and instant learning. 3. In the module, there are four
processes of adaptation:

 Selection – It is when you are going to decide and select specific activities or contexts in a material by
which you believed to be of significant in your class.

 Rejection – In this stage, you are to omit specific activities or contexts wherein it does not academically
arouse your students. In other words, it has the least to no effects to the students.

 Adding – During this part, you are going to add certain activities or contexts that are not present in the
material by which you have already evaluated that these things will complete the material. It will
supplement the activities that are already in the textbook/material.
 Changing – A teacher will have the capability to change or manipulate the activities or contexts for it to
become suitable for the class. The teacher assesses the student’s needs thus, knows what the student
requires for learning.

After reading, I understood what the teacher has said. When you are provided with a new material, you
will always have urge to use and revise it in many ways. There is a need to utilize it to its utmost
capability. Technology made learning materials more subjective to the needs of the students. It boasts its
wide range of uses that majority of classes would prefer it than books. The utilization of the computer
with a projector by copying the contents in a course book by which she already cut them out in chunks for
a better comprehension of students. Course books also have become the fallout in material development.
There are a lot of materials in this modern generation. As time goes by, the needs of each student changes
thus, there is also a need to try new things out that would be suitable to supplement the student’s learning.
