National Intern (Roster), Multiple Positions: Background Information - Myanmar
Duration 6 months

Myanmar is one of UNOPS’ leading o ces in Asia, acting as fund manager for three of the largest
development programmes in the country, namely the Access to Health, the Livelihood and Food Security
Fund (LIFT) and the Joint Peace Fund (JPF). In addition, UNOPS is Principal Recipient for the Global Fund in
Myanmar and for the Global Fund’s regional artemisinin-resistance initiative targeting drug resistant malaria
in the greater Mekong sub-region. UNOPS also provides procurement, infrastructure and project
management services to a wide range of organizations in the country, including the Government of
Myanmar, international development partners, other UN agencies, NGOs and INGOs. UNOPS plays a critical
role in ensuring that the quality of services provided to its partners meets stringent requirements of speed,
e ciency and cost e ectiveness.

The National Internship Programme is a learning and working opportunity to experience UNOPS job life
and begin their professional development. The intern will be exposed to practical learning and working
experiences that foster development of their path. The Intern will work full time and follow the same
working hours as UNOPS employees under current working conditions. UNOPS Myanmar is currently
working from home due to COVID-19, and as such interns would be expected to also work from home.
Under the direct supervision of the hiring managers from the requesting units, Interns may be requested to
support speci c assignments, covering but not limited to assisting in programme or fund’s activities. Interns
are assigned to each requesting unit according to the needs of the business and their own areas of
interest.
Functional Responsibilities
Within the context of the requesting unit’s business requirement, interns may be assigned all or part of the
following duties:
The National Internship Programme will be a valuable and enriching experience for interns. They will have
the opportunity to work in a UN environment, learning from their supervisors and other colleagues about
workplace culture, project, programme and grant management, communications and nance. Interns in this
programme will also have the opportunity to attend a series of webinars/workshops conducted by other
colleagues in the o ce, with a diverse range of topics (how to manage nances, how to write your CV, how
to write a press release, and more). Interns will be members of the UNOPS Myanmar community, with
access to UNOPS corporate learning opportunities through the Learning Zone, and through attendance at

meetings and other events. They will be thoroughly supported by dedicated personnel from the National
Internship Programme as well as their supervisors, who will ensure they perform their assignment in a
conducive environment and with all the support and guidance they need.
The intern is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of
the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
Candidates must be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the
equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of
the internship.
Work Experience
Professional working experience is not required for this internship, but previous working experience
(including volunteering or extracurricular involvement in community work) would be an asset.
Language Requirement
Fluency in both Myanmar and full working knowledge of the English language is required.

Induction course at the start of the internship
3 workshops with senior personnel for career development during their internship (CV writing session,
career guidance session, leadership, budgeting, etc)
Access to the online learning zone
Interns are covered by UNOPS under the Group Life, Disability and Medical Insurance Policy for Fellows,
Scienti c Visitors, Training Course, Study Tour and Meeting Participants of a United Nations
Organization (FAMPI).
This internship is not designed to lead to a sta position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no
expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
The intern is responsible for all costs associated with the internship (e.g. accommodation and travel
arrangement for interstate interns).
