landing with the normal amount of counter - balancing and with 125 %
contract load.
3. The drive shall not cause the motor to create excessive audible
noise. Filters may be used to ensure that audible noise is kept to
acceptable levels.
5. The elevator controller and motor drive unit shall confirm fully
to all European directives, including the following:
2.04 CONTROL
2.05 CONTROLLERS
The controller shall house all necessary contactors, relays, switches, cards,
microprocessors, interface modules, power amplifiers, solid state devices, timing
devices, transformers and all apparatus associated with the control of the elevator in

the car assembly in the guides. Tail brackets shall be suitably
attached to the building structure. Bracket spacing shall be in
accordance with the applicable safety codes listed elsewhere.
B. Rails shall be of steel "TEE" section of standard length with its faces
properly machined to provide a smooth and uniform track for the
moving car and counterweight. Joints of rails shall be accurately
machined with tongues and grooves at the end of the rails at the
center of the railhead and base forming matched joints.
D. The car and counterweight guide rails shall be provided and aligned
so that the faces of the rails are plumb within plus or minus 6mm,
from top to the
bottom of the hoist way. The maximum change in the Distance Between Guides
(DBG) shall not exceed 6mm.
E. Rail shim packs shall be 19mm. Maximum and shall secure alignment
and shall be so designed that they will remain in position even
though the fastening bolts may become loosened.
B. The ends of the hoist ropes shall be properly secured to the car
and counterweight crosshead or to the dead-endhitch plates on 2:1
roping, with adjustable rope shackles. Screw adjustment shall permit
equalization of the tension in all ropes.
C. The specification and size of the governor rope for each elevator shall
be as per the requirements of the applicable codes specified
elsewhere. The governor rope shall pass over the governor

A. uide Shoes
Each elevator shall have four sets of car and counterweight guide
shoes. Each guide shoe shall be made of suitable resilient
material, each fixed inside suitable metal frames. A suitable guide
rail oiler shall be fixed on each guide rail side at the top and bottom
of the car and counterweight.
2.12 BUFFERS:
Each buffer shall be designed for contract speed and fitted with a suitably
cut-out / stop switch arranged to operate the safety circuits in an
emergency.
The buffers shall be securely fixed to the main steelwork and suitably
positioned within the lift pits and should be capable of accepting the
imposed loads the fully laden free fall car or counterweight, with the
buffer stroke returning to normal within the prescribed period.
For lifts having a speed in excess of 1.00m/s the buffers shall be of the
progressive oil type. (Energy dissipation).
governor located over the hoist way. The safety shall stop the elevator
whenever excessive descending speed is attained and means shall be provided to cut off
power from the motor and apply the brake prior to application of the safety. The safety
shall be released by moving the elevator in the upward direction. The safety gear shall be so
designed that it will stop and hold the elevator with full contract load plus 10% in the event
of the lift exceeding 115% of the contract speed in the downward direction.
C. The governor rope system, including the governor and tension sheave,
shall be arranged so that the carrier will not release due to system
dynamics when the elevator is subjected to an emergency stop in

the up direction.
ii) The elevator will not move unless a directional push and an auxiliary
push are both operated. The pouches shall be sprung loaded, so
requiring continuous pressure to move the elevator.
vi) A car door test feature allowing the door operation to function
whatever the position of the car, comprising of a door test/normal
switch and open and close pushes.
The lift car shall be provided with a levelling device that will automatically
bring the lift car to the landings within a tolerance of ±5mm.
The levelling system shall, within its zone, be entirely automatic and

independent of the push operating panel. The device shall compensate for
any over-travel or under-travel.
The levelling accuracy shall not be exceeded for any landing in either
direction of travel under a range of conditions from full contract load to
empty car.
The supply for the emergency alarm system shall be obtained from a
12-volt trickled charged battery located in the machine room,
incorporating automatic voltage regulation.
The Sub-Contractor shall include for wiring from the supply in the machine
room to the lift car.
Inside each lift car there shall be provided a single combined control
station suitable for use by disabled persons which shall incorporate the
following: -
All fixings for the buttons, key switches and the front panel of the push
button station shall be vandal resistant, and mounted securely in the main car control
station panel.
An infrared sensor will be fitted in the car edge arranged to scan the
area immediately in front of the lift entrance.
Primary door protection shall consist of a two dimensional; multi-beam
array projecting across the car door opening. Under normal operation and
for any door position, the system shall detect as a blockage an opaque object
that is equal to or greater than 33mm in diameter when inserted between
the car doors at vertical positions from within 25mm above the sill to
1800mm above the sill. Under degraded conditions (one or more
blocked or failed beams), the primary protection shall detect opaque
objects that are equal or greater than 100mm in diameter for the same
vertical coverage. If the system performance is degraded to the point that
the 100mm object cannot be detected, the system shall maintain the
doors open or permit closing only under nudging force conditions.
A. General
Each hoist way landing entrance assembly consisting of unit frame, door
panels, sill, hanger, closer, interlock and their installation shall comply with applicable
code requirements and have a fire rating of 11/2 hours.
B. Unit frames.
C. Door panels.
D. Sills.

extruded aluminum. Grooves shall be machined to give
minimum clearance for the guides. The sills shall be supported
on steel angles which are in turn securely fastened to
building structure.
E. Door hangers.
F. Hanger supports.
Hanger cover plates shall be made of sheet steel and shall extend the full
width of door.

shoes, mounted so they do not require removal of the door when
replaced.
D. The doors on goods lifts shall be collapsible shutter type with leaves
guided on ball or roller bearing top suspension wheels and bottom
guide metal blocks. The leaves shall be nominally 150mm wide
made from zinc protected steel.
E. The car and landing doors shall be operated quietly and smoothly by a
high-performance variable speed, door operator which shall be
mounted on the car frame, independent of the car bodywork. The car
drive unit shall open and close the doors at a speed of not less than
300mm per second. During the course of opening and closing the car
and landing doors shall be solidly locked together to ensure
simultaneous movement. They shall be smoothly cushioned at
both limits of travel by electrical damping.
