Resumen de texto:

Although usually is taken into account the mouse input delay, it's also important the
keyboard input delay, in other words, LAG is another topic to consider while talking about
performance, reaction and esports. Therefore, it's going to be presented what influences it,
why does it matter and what you can do to reduce it.

WHY?

This is because people perceive delays up to 2 ms or less. If you then do that modern dog
keyboards still have a delay of up to 60 ms, you can be a little more careful with your next
purchase. You must have the shortest input delay. You will see the competitive CSGO
players using Expense 120 Hz + or old CRT screens, the most high-screen mouse (sensor)
and a complaint for speed to the server or configure the game settings for the smallest input
delay, it is talked about today's keyboard hardware, because it is where the actual input lag
begins. Being this the reason why gaming keyboards are now a day extremely important to
develop correctly on a competitive scene(mchanical keyboards with the switches).

Difference Between input latency and accuracy.

There must be a difference between the entry latency and the accuracy of a press. If you
only need the fastest reactions, you plan to get the entry offset. If you only need
consistency in repeated presses, you plan to get the best accuracy. In rhythm games, like
OSU, you want the fastest input speed, but also the greatest accuracy. This must consider
your reaction time, movement and entry offset.

It is also presented the “Parameters of the input” which means the step by step that needs to
occur in order to register the activation and show response of the user movement.

1. Key input is the actual physical press of the key.

2. Scan rate is the frequency at which the keyboard microcomputer chip (MCU) reads
the keys.
3. MCU processing is the time it takes for the microcontroller (MCU) to process the
input.
4. USB polling is the frequency at which the PC checks for input from the keyboard.
5. PC software is the time your operating software (OS) and the particular
program/game your using needs to process the input.

Now there are different influences on the latency of a keyboard, all of them mostly making
part of the switches, but I'm just going to mention the most important ones for my research,
the Switch travel distance, Keyboard scan rate, Switch Debounce Time and lastly monitor
refresh rate.

The Switch travel distance is one, if not the most, important factor while showing the
response of a movement on the screen, it doesn’t matter if is typing or gaming, it is
extremely crucial, for example the project done by Dan Luu (System Des. Engineer at
Nvidia Corp, from Mountain View, California) which showed that travel time could even
account up to 10ms, without considering external moding that could switch the travel
distance, in brief, it could be explained as... “a combination of the shortest travel distance
and highest actuation point will result in the fastest key input.” (Calder Limmen,2018)

To put in comparison and give an idea to the reader:

Here are general comparisons between the multiple types of switches that are working in
nowadays commercial marketing.

Then the Keyboard scan rate and the Switch Debounce Time are pretty close, in fact the
keyboard scan is expressed on what is expected to see and to feel as a user while using and
pressing a switch, and the switch debounce time gives information about this expectations,
because the bounce its shown or explained when the two metal contacts of a switch touch
each other, it has an unstable signal caused by the impact vibrations of the contacts and the
opposite action or going back to normal and register the touch is called debouncing.

And finally, the monitor fresh rate, it allows the human eye to process quicker the info. and
give the opportunity to the user or gamer to click the keyboard as fast and possible and
optimize the reaction time, reducing the latency of a keyboard. This is more focused on
doing any experiment, because to have a fair-test and don’t switch multiple variables, its
principal to keep same monitor and same refresh rate to prevent manipulating incorrectly
the results.

Teorias, conceptos y descripciones relevante del autor sobre la temática abordada

Concepts are all over the place, but for the importance of my topic, the best
alternative to present in this part are the following ones: Keyboard input latency or
LAG, Parameters of the input and the words presented after the experiment of Dan
Luu.
All these concepts are crucial for my topic because what I am trying to prove is if
the friction of the switch could bring as a consequence a variation in response time,
and know learning about even pro-players perspectives, I am able to have a criteria
such as would friction increase keyboard latency? Or taking into account the step
by step to actionize a switch, am I able to make a hypothesis of what could
influence friction on a reaction time of a user? Or is the data of Dan Luu and the
activation point comparing different switches, give me an idea of how friction
could delay the travel distance, the time taken, and the activation point?

Aspectos metodológicos de la publicación o del documento leído:

This text is really complete, and is strictly created by a professional coworker of a

recognized company such as Wooting, and is also helped with investigation of intellectual
persons like Dan who used hours of work in different activation points and multiple
experimentation keeping always variables the same and having a correctly created and
established structure of experiment (https://danluu.com/keyboard-latency/) making this text
reliable and pertinent for usage and citation on my own project.

Comentarios y o análisis del documento con respecto a su temática de investigación.

Reflecting about this document and the capacity of applying it and even making it useful
for my research is huge, the capacity that gives me knowing the concepts and words that
are correct to describe this type of topic and then creating scenarios that could help me to
prove the reaction time and trough different games such as OSU,CSGO or LOL opens the
opportunity to my investigation to a next level of inspirating and creating bases for the start
of my journey with my topic and research question.

Also, this text in my opinion is completely accurate and tries to center its attention on all
the small details that could affect the latency and therefore the response time of a user or
gamer, leading the reader to take by his own conclusion like, its better mechanical
keyboard than membrane or other types of switches, to experiment about the topic and the
responses of a person, its vital to maintain all your variables the same and just switch the
switches material or components in order to (for example) on my case only prove the
differences regarding the friction of all the components of a switch.
