1. The inclined member in Fig. (a) is subjected to a compressive force of 2500 N. Determine
the average compressive stress along the smooth areas of contact defined by AB and BC,
and the average shear stress along the horizontal plane defined by DB.

3. Due to a loading, the plate is deformed into the dashed shape shown in Fig. 2–6a.
Determine:

(a) the average normal strain along the side AB, and

(b) the average shear strain in the plate at A relative to the x and y axes.

4. Indicate the points on the stress-strain diagram which represent the proportional limit, ultimate

5. The timber member has a cross-sectional area of 1750 𝑚𝑚2 and its modulus of elasticity is 12
GPa. Compute the total axial deformation of the member after the loads shown are applied.
