TERMINAL EXAMINATION (JULY-2021)

Course Title: Engineering Hydrology________________________________________________

Program: BSc Civil Engineering Semester: 6th Section: A_ Roll No.:_____________________

Name & Sign of Instructor: Engr. Shakeel Hassan___________ Sign of HOD: ______________________

Max. Marks: (60) Time Allowed: As per exam policy_ Date: 05/07/2021

NOTE : RN refers to last two digits of your registration Number. Please assume all suitable missing data if
required. Elaborate your answers with neat sketches where applicable.

Sr. Question Marks CLO/D.L

No
Q:1 Explain. 10 1/C.2
a. Estimation of missing rainfall data
b. Slug Test
c. Extension of Rating curves and its significance
d. Rational equation and IDF Curves with their application and importance.
Q:2 Compare reservoir routing with channel routing. Analyze the procedure and 10 1/C.4
significance of flood routing technique adopted in Pakistan.
Q:3 Observational wells were drilled in a cone of depression of artesian well, being 10 2/C.5
pumped at the rate of (0.05+RN) m³/sec. The drawdown in the observational wells
at 5 m and 15 m were found to be 8.5 m and 3.5 m respectively. Investigate:
a. The value of ‘K’ for this aquifer if the average thickness of aquifer is 70 m?
b. The changes which occur at a pumping rate of (0.05*Registration No) m³/s
c. The changes which occur if the average thickness changes to (2.5*Reg. No.)
Q:4 Estimate the constant rate of withdrawal from a (1350+RN) ha reservoir in a month 10 2/C.2
of 30 days during which the reservoir level dropped by 0.75 m in spite of an average
inflow into the reservoir of 0.5 Mm³/day. During the month the average seepage
loss from the reservoir was 2.4 cm, total precipitation on the reservoir was
(19.5+RN) cm and the total evaporation was (9.2+RN) cm.
Q:5 Construct a 6-hour unit hydrograph if the data in Table No. 1 is obtained from a six- 10 2/C.3
hour duration storm and the catchment area is (3000+RN) km2. Is it possible to
derive a 12-hour UH from this resultant unit hydrograph
Q:6 A well penetrating a confined aquifer is pumped at a uniform rate of 10 2/C.5
(2500+RN) m3/day. Drawdowns during the pumping period are measured in
an observation well (60+RN) m away; Observation of time and drawdown are
listed in the Table No 2. Investigate the Transmissivity and Storativity of this
aquifer by Theiss method and Cooper-Jacob method.
