1. Context and Background

Habitat for Humanity International Nepal is an international non-profit organization that builds
decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need. The organization focuses
on shelter, advocates for affordable housing, promote dignity and hope, and supports
sustainable and transformational development.

This terms-of-reference has been developed to engage a Communication Consultant on a


daily-basis contract for a minimum of three months to assist the Communication Department
in communicating ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate our target audiences.

The responsibility of this consultancy is to ensure the communication materials adherence to


Habitat International branding and graphic guidelines and meet Habitat Nepal timelines while
reporting to the Communications Manager and coordinating logistics with the East Field
Office’s Program Operation Manager.

2. Tasks and Responsibilities

The successful individual will support the Communication Department in Jhapa, Morang,
Sunsari, Saptari, and Siraha. There may be periods when the Consultant may need to travel
to Kathmandu or our West Field Office and project areas in Kanchanpur and Kailali. Key
tasks expected, but not limited to the following:

• Shooting videos and photos of Habitat families, partners, staff, and events in Habitat
project areas.
• Interview individuals and families for Habitat stories.
• Support the production of short videos, presentations, and other digital collateral for
different audiences.
• Organize and maintain the Resource Development and Communications Share-point
files for easy retrieval of stories and photos.
• Establish relationships with local journalists.
• Obtain permits for drone shootings.
• Assist with the layout and design of communication materials for electronic distribution.
• Support Global Village Program communications, if requested.
• Support the East Field Office when requested.
• Making sure the posters and banners designed by our partner NGO meets the donors
and Habitat branding guidelines.

3. Competencies

• Highly competent in photography and videography.


• Experience in graphic and layout designing/publication production.
• Competence in the use of Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
preferred.
• Ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
• Create PowerPoint presentations for the East field office.
• Ability to coordinate and follow instructions either part of a team or individually.
• Ability to research and gather key information to produce thought-provoking stories that
resonate with Habitat’s donors and stakeholders.
• Travel to project areas on short notice.

5. Resources available

A laptop, camera, microphone, and tripod will be made available to the consultant. The
Consultant will be responsible for the safekeeping of all equipment provided by Habitat and
the Consultant may be liable for any loss or damage.

6. Guidance and supervision

The consultant will report to the Communications Manager w. However, the consultant will
also work closely with the DRR focal point of East office and Mahuli community Development
center, Saptari.

7. Payment

Daily rate on an actual-days-worked basis. The daily rate must be inclusive of the use of the
Consultants’ own vehicle to travel throughout the Eastern Region, based on:
• motorbike 10NPR/km
• car 15NPR/km
Income tax will be deducted by Habitat for Humanity according to Nepali Labour laws.
Any flights, vehicle hire, or accommodation expenses will be on a reimbursable basis payable
on presentation of original receipts.
