Message from
the Director
The past few years have been an eventful journey for
the Indian securities markets, having taken major
strides to carve a niche for itself within the global
securities markets. The milestones which
contributed to this incredible journey is extensively
reflected in the improved market microstructure and
innovations in the overall regulatory framework.

It has been NISM`s vision to impart knowledge

relating to the securities markets to a broad array of
participants- both academic and professional; and to
build robust skilled manpower pool capable of disseminating this knowledge to the investors in securities markets
while simultaneously capable of supporting the regulators in the markets.

NISM through its academic and corporate training programs, workshops, industry interactions, etc, has undertaken
the task of redefining financial education for the purpose of creating professionals who are ready to perform their
requisite role including that of being corporate leaders in the securities markets.

Nested in the invigorating ambiance at Patalganga, NISM epitomizes a premier, modern age training and learning
centre, where talent is nurtured, groomed for launch into the corporate world.

We have embarked on a fast-track expansion of our activities, both domestically and internationally, and I believe
that this expansion will propel NISM as a leading player in the areas of knowledge dissemination and skills
enhancement within the capital markets of emerging economies.

Mr. S.K. Mohanty

Director, NISM

text) to arrive at the chosen content.

7
Why NISM?
PGDM (SM) provides an opportunity to study in a pedigreed
institute, under a team of top academicians and practitioners, in a
world-class infrastructure, with easy access to Mumbai, the
financial capital of India.

• In his Union Budget speech in the Parliament on February 28,

2005, the Finance Minister mandated SEBI to establish NISM, for
fostering education and research in securities markets.
Securities markets play a vital role in transforming savings into
investment, so critical for a growing economy like India, with its
vast infrastructure and development needs.

• Over the years, the School for Securities Education (SSE) at NISM
has carved a niche for itself in both education and research.
NISM has conducted several training programmes for officers
from IRS, IAS, ICLS, CAG, SEBI, RBI etc. Our training
programmes have also benefitted the regulatory staff from
SAARC nations and the CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and
Vietnam) nations. Customized corporate training programmes
also feature regularly as part of our ongoing activities.

• With this rich experience in education and research over a

decade, the AICTE-recognized PGDM (SM) programme has
been carefully crafted to impart the complete set of knowledge
and skills in vital and emerging application areas, benchmarked
with the best in India and overseas. The curriculum has gone
through the Academic Council and Board of Governors of NISM
consisting of eminent personalities from industry and academia.
PGDM (SM) participants will not only gain insights into securities
markets and finance from Year-1 itself, but also fine-tune and
hone their knowledge and skill sets and emerge as complete
securities market professionals over the 2-year time frame.
PGDM (SM) also opens a window to several national and
international professional certifications that can be acquired
during or after the programme.

8
• Our faculty members have written many research papers and have won laurels in various national and
international research conferences across the Globe.

• Our Library has a collection of around 10,000 books, apart from various periodicals. It has one of the richest
collections in the country on Economics, Finance, Securities Markets and Compliance. Subscription to electronic
journals through EBSCO is also available, for accessing scientific journals.

Our state-of-the-art Simulated Market Algorithm Laboratory (SMART) Lab is a focal point in our learning
environment. Participants are provided hands-on exposure to the live markets, at an introductory as well as
advanced level. This is supplemented by subscriptions to Bloomberg, CMIE Prowess, Morningstar Direct,
Morningstar Advisory Workstation and Business Line Campus Online, for learning enrichment. Internationally
benchmarked Case Studies, Book Reviews, Film Reviews, Mentoring & Counselling sessions, Field Visits, Seminars
