(Movie Analysis)
Glengarry Glen Ross shows the lives of four real estate salesmen over the course of two
days, and how things became complex when a trainer came in to inspire them by holding a sales
contest in which all but the top two salesmen would be fired in a week. The film depicted several
real-world situations in the workplace as well as life lessons. For example, conquering your
anxieties of distractions that could break your attention, or realizing that your career was hanging
in the balance and you only had a limited amount of time to preserve it.
The first issue I saw in the movie was the difficulty in closing transactions with prospects
and their weak leads. When a trainer appeared and questioned the salesmen about the sales and
told them about the time limit for their chances of keeping their employment, the pressure among
the salesmen increased by a factor of two. After seeing the movie, I believe I have identified the
key office difficulties as my largest "take away": the firm's organizational structure, leadership,
proper training, and sales methods. Because they were locked in with premium prospecting and
the most recent leads, the salesman has struggled to conclude deals smoothly. As the market
industry struggles to develop, prospects and customers' perceptions adjust to the changes in an
attempt to keep up with the times. Using the same old leads again and over can make it difficult
for a salesperson to locate and persuade his or her consumer or client.
In the first half of the film, I honestly can't tell who is the boss and who are the
subordinates. According to my observations, everyone speaks to their assigned management as
though they are superior. Inside the firm or at any work location, misconduct is not tolerated.
The purpose of an organizational structure is to establish a line of demarcation between superiors
and subordinates by promoting a suitable and professional mindset. Other reasons for enforcing
an organizational structure include having a suitable set of rules to follow, having an ordered
chain of command, maintaining workplace harmony, and assisting in the development of skills
while developing excellent relationships among employees’ ability of the leader to manage the
personnel is reflected in their performance. From how information and directives are
disseminated to how ideas are accepted and reflected on, how important circumstances are
handled, and how a leader communicates and interacts with his team. And this is the most
horrifying thing I've seen in the movie. No matter what the situation, the leader must know how
to manage his team. The leader should move as a unit and correctly lead his troops. Experiencing
the trainings and orientation provided is one way to perform effectively in the workplace and
when dealing with clients. This is to improve your ability to identify patterns and build other
skills linked to your line of expertise.
Another thing I observed throughout the film was their marketing efforts. When dealing
with customers, the salesmen employ the same strategy. Talking with potential clients over the
phone and trying to treat them as though the salesman only has a short amount of time in town to
meet with them, leaving the clients with no choice but to comply. The technique may be
effective since there is constant discussion, but it does not always work. By understanding and
determining their clients' needs and goals, the salesperson must develop fresh and inventive
techniques. One of the goals of holding training programs and seminars for all employees,
particularly those in the sales and marketing departments, is to improve sales methods.
Glengarry Glen Ross depicted various aspects of a real-life workplace. Dealing with
misunderstandings among coworkers, the race to the safe spot, and crossing the prohibited line to
get a head start on the goal. It may have had a number of management flaws, but the film also
taught its audience a valuable lesson. Always be willing to assist, whether it's coaching a
prospect or assisting coworkers for improved harmony and teamwork. Also, remember to create
clear objectives. Goals that are genuine and do not involve any inappropriate or malicious
purpose. Make time for self-improvement and use criticism to motivate you to do better. Don't
take advantage of opportunities for transitory or short-term gain.
