Teaching Through Radio and Television in The Time Of COVID-19

Kimberly “Taba” Salvador

As the country grapples with the COVID-19 crisis, the Department of Education has identified
various teaching modalities that can help minimize the effects of the crisis on the learners. One
of the main teaching modalities used today is TV-based and Radio-based instruction.

The department believes, using television and radio broadcast, distance learning can reach the
most marginalised individuals and groups. Teachers were tasked to be the broadcasters and in
developing educational videos that are more interactive and engaging to young students.

Thus, teacher-broadcasters together with the production team in Maligaya Elementary School-
Main meticulously designed their videos with more interactive components to capture the
attention of learners, particularly the youngest ones.

In the mid-term of the shool year was the most tiring moment for the teachers and production
team of Maligaya Elementary School-Main. 8 out of the 13 teachers were given an assignment to
do TVI-RBI shooting. Nonetheless, with the teamwork of the teaching staff the assignments
were done accordingly.

One of the teachers at the school, Ms. Jesica B. Alcaide, shared her experienced as a teacher-
broadcaster.

Maligaya Elementary School-Main will continue to provide and develop educational videos or
instructions to properly educate young learners.
