LEARNING ACTIVITY 2
(Case Analysis)

I. Direction: Read the following Cases/Situations and answer the discussion questions
that follow each case/situation.

Case 1.
You are currently eating in a carenderia, when a little boy about 9 years old approached the owner
and ask for permission to get the left-over of the customers in the different tables for him and her
sick mother to have something to eat. With irritation the owner prohibits the presence of the boy
inside the carenderia since the boy is so filthy. She did not allow the boy to get the left-over because
according to her, that is part of safety protocol specially so that presence of Covid-19 virus is
considered and that according to her the left-over are not safe for the boy and his sick mother. Thus,
she led the boy out from the carenderia. Persistently however, the little boy continue to beg to the
owner for the left-over but the owner turned her back and went inside the kitchen. With the thought
that nobody is looking, the little boy got the loaf bread inside the cabinet and ran away.
Question for discussion:
1. Do you think the reason of the owner justifies her actuation towards the boy? Why?
2. What do you think is the best thing, the owner should have made. Explain.
3. What will be your course of action as Good Samaritan given the situation?
4. What is your stand about what the little boy have done? Explain.

Al Smetana, the CEO of Rayburn Unlimited Company, has built the company on foundations of honesty,
integrity, and acknowledging the values that every individual at the company possesses. One day, he
realized that an employee had found a way of accessing emails belonging to other people at the
company. He immediately asked the employee to leave the company for violating the code of conduct.

As the employee was leaving, he made some remarks in anger regarding the vice president of the
human resources division at the company, Mr. Craig Lindsey. The employee alleged that Lindsey used
his computer to watch pornography.

At the time, Al Smetana was skeptical about the allegation, but later he decided to call Lindsey in his
office and make inquiries. During the meeting, Lindsey accepted the allegations amid tears and stated
that he was addicted to it and he was trying to stop. He asked the CEO for help, but Smetana said he
needed time to think about the matter.

Question for discussion:

1. Determine whether the following is right or wrong. Support and explain your answer:

a. Dismissing the employee for violating the code of conduct.


b. Disclosing the secret of Mr. Craig Lindsey by the employee who is being dismissed.

c. Admittance of Mr. Lindsey

2. If you are the CEO what course of action or decision regarding the case of Mr. Lindsey. Answer
the it using steps in ethical decision making as summarized in the following table below. (Use a
separate sheet if necessary)
