HEALTH CARE ETHICS( NCM 108)

FIRST SEMESTER SY 2020-2021
FINALS ACTIVITY 5

What are the roles of Ethics in Resource Allocation? Why it Matters?

Nursing ethics are principles that guides us in decision making for providing
quality health care services to our patients. The roles of ethics in resource allocation is that they
provide a framework or guidance in order for us to properly distribute and to have equity on
allocating our resources and as well as our services to our patients for us to be able to examine
or ordering our values. Things that we value regarding on the resource allocation such as value
for personal autonomy or personal decision, value for loyalty and truthfulness, privacy and

loyalty for doing no harm and value for doing good and value of justice or equity. It does matter
because if individuals like us health care workers value this things or all of us value these same
things in a same way, we can easily determine and set the ranking of how are we going to
provide the resources or how are we going to allocate the resources that we have. Another role
of ethics in resource allocation is that it gives us the power or decision to have cost-friendly
healthcare services that will still provide quality care. These roles of ethics do really matters
because it is such a big help to achieve an equal allocation of resources and services.

choices will benefit some and not others. How should choices be made? What values
should guide these choices?
If healthcare resources are scarce, they should still be allocated or distributed equally in
order to provide equity in every patient that we have. Distributions must be based from the
patient’s needs because not all patients have the same need at the same time. Some patients
have lot of needs on resources but some don’t. In distribution of resources, you should be able
to be effective health care worker wherein you are able to make use of the limited resources to
meet every patient’s need. Choices should be made depending on prioritization an
rationalizations.. Prioritizing on who among the people or patient are in need of the most of the
resources and allocation of resources should give improvement on the people’s health. The
values that can guide in making decisions regarding on resources are the value of justice, which

is to provide equity in every patient regardless of how limited the resource s, and the value of
autonomy or personal decision for us to be able to know if they do or don’t want to accept that
resource being allocated to them so that we can provide it to others who are in need of it in case
they decided to decline that resource or service, also the value of beneficence because we just
don’t provide these resources because of nothing, we provide them to that certain patient
because they need it and it will save them from their agonies despite of the scarcity of the
resources.
