COMMUNITY IMMERSION YEAR 2020- 2021

COMMUNITY PANTRY: Share Food, Share the Love and Spread Hope to the Nation
Title of the Project

Description:

Filipinos seem to have found a ray of hope among themselves, as a sense of community is being
forged and manifested in community pantries. The motto, “ Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan;
kumuha batay sa pangangailangan," has inspired many individuals and groups to contribute to
those who are in need. This modern bayanihan is a remarkable phenomenon for us today. At a
time when our physical mobility and resources are limited, we still manage to gain a collective
understanding of the situation. We know that the pandemic has serious effects on our health and
on our jobs. We sense that many of us, especially the poor, struggle to feed their families. We see
that by coming together our individual limitations can be overcome by organizing for a common
goal.

To provide mutual aid and help each other out, not treat others like they are charity cases.

Narrative Report

The said organization held a meeting last May 20 at Espelita’s Residence in Brgy.
Batasan Hills. They come up with this idea due to poverty and lack of income to support their
need. The organization identified the target community for their project implementation.
Coordination with the barangay fell on the hands of Ms. Kimberly Espelita and Sarah Jane
Aguilon.

As part of pre-planning, Mr. Abad, the Chairman of the Barangay gave his words about
the implementation of the health protocols. In his few words, his lecture was about binding the
message with action and as well as the safeness of the people.

The organization was divided into three groups. One was to handle procurement. The
second group organized the needed materials for the event. Lastly, the last group was tasked to
make home visits around the vicinity to announce the activity and build rapport with the
community.

The divisions of labor were strictly followed as well as the health protocols. The Tau
Gamma Phi. Katangian Chapter helped in organizing the people lined up. The size of the area
was grossly underestimated. If it weren’t for the extra help, covering the area would have been
impossible.

We had the opportunity to live, identify and associate with the people of Kaibigan Street.
It is truly indeed a Kaibigan. We established rapport and relationships with the community which
hopefully opened the way for other NSTP - home based project implementations.

We also had the pleasure of bonding with the people. The bucolic surroundings and the
carefree afternoon brought many of us back. It is good that through the community pantries, we
see mutual aid by neighbors, barangay residents, and of course, the youths serving the nation.
Come to think of it, it may be a small thing for a person, family, or to give free vegetables, fruits,
rice, water, or noodles to those who are suffering in these times, those who lost their livelihood.
But it's a big help for these people already, so they can stave off hunger until they can bounce
back from the pandemic.
