Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1-3

Operator interface The following window appears on machine turn-on:

The main page sets the machine in MANUAL operation mode.

By means of levers and selectors placed on the control panel it is possible to move the
axes as well as to turn on the blade motor, to open the tool cooling water, to turn on the
lasers, etc..

By pressing these 2 buttons, it is possible to enable two different Tool Center Point
modes.

- TCP LIGHT: it enables the movements referred to the tool centre for the A and C
axes only;

- TCP FULL: it enables TCP LIGHT + virtual plane, orthogonal to the tool direc-
tion for X, Y e Z.
The blue colour of the key and the presence of a blue bar highlight the activation of the
mode selected.

The TCP LIGHT and TCP FULL modes remain active when the machining centre
is turned on again if they were active before the previous turn-off.
MDI

This button enables the MDI mode, manual data entry, which allows the operator to
assign ISO G-CODE commands to the machine.

Note Refer to the 752dp1 ISO Programming manual for a list and description of the com-
mands.

1-4 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

Semi-automatic cutting

By pressing this button it is possible to activate the Manual Cut program for semi-au-
tomatic cutting and to enter the corresponding parameters.
The function allows to move the head manually to make cuts of adjustable length, us-
ing the joysticks on the operator panel.
l Press the Manual Cut button. The following window appears:

- Length: value of cutting length to perform.

- Correction of Z sinking: value of blade sinking while cutting for raceways engrav-
ing.
The value entered in this field refers to the bench zero; it can only be a positive
value and it prevents the blade from performing a workpiece clean cut: the blade
descent stops when the blade reaches the set value referring to the bench zero (e.g.;
with a value of 2 mm, the blade descent stops 2 mm before the bench zero).
By pressing the CYCLE START key the rotation of the disk is started at the speed in-
dicated within the selected tool.
By using the joysticks of the XY and Z axes, the head moves along the cutting direc-
tion and the disk penetration/ascent direction, respectively:
l Incline the Z-axis joystick and keep it activated.
The head moves along the penetration/ascent direction at the sinking speed de-
clared in the selected tool (regardless of whether or not the TCP FULL key is
pressed), as far as the limit given by the parameter Z SINKING CORRECTION.
If the joystick is released, the descent of the Z axis is stopped.
l Give a pulse to the X- or Y-axis joystick.
In the positive direction (X+, Y+), the head moves in the cutting direction at the
working speed declared in the selected tool; in the negative direction (X-, Y-), the
disk will cut in the opposite direction.
It is possible to pause the cut by giving a second pulse with the corresponding joy-
stick; you can also go back to the starting point by giving a subsequent negative
pulse (X-, Y-), or resume the cutting operation by giving a subsequent positive
pulse (X+, Y+).
l Press the Manual Cut button to quit the Semi-automatic Cut function or close
the relevant window.

Note If the window is closed during the Z axis descent, the same Z axis descent is inter-
rupted; if the window is closed when a linear cut is in progress, the same linear cut is
brought to completion anyway.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1-5

The detailed layout of the page is shown below.

À STATUS BAR
Illustrates the status of the machine and its users immediately.

Á MANUAL HANDLING WITH DIMENSION INPUT

Panel dedicated to the display of the axis dimensions (first column); it enables input-
ting target or incremental dimensions to command (second column).
Displays the axis dimensions and enables entering target or incremental dimensions.

l Press the HANDLING button to enable moving the axes to the set TARGET (ab-
solute) or INCREMENTAL dimensions.
It is possible to move one axis at a time by pressing the following push-buttons.

The type of movement is related to the activation or non-activation of the TCP (Light
or Full):
- TCP Disabled: the movement/rotation is performed along the normal direction of
the axis involved;
- TCP Light: the movement of the linear axes (X, Y and Z) will be carried out along
the normal direction of the axis involved (like with the TCP disabled), the rotation
of the rotary axes will be performed in TCP instead.
- TCP Full: Like with TCP Light, but the movement of the linear axes is performed
by considering the rotation of the machining centre head.
- X: movement along the cutting direction of the disk;
- Y: movement perpendicular to the cutting direction of the disk;
- Z: movement along the penetration/ascent direction of the disk;
- A: rotation of A axis with fixed tool bit;
- C: rotation of C axis with fixed tool bit;
The input field saves the latest input value that is updated automatically only when
changing the dimension display or when switching from target mode to incremental
mode (or vice versa).

 PROGRAM LISTING
Displays the ISO code executed by the machine at that time.

à MAIN MENU
Buttons for quick access to the various functions.

Ä HELP BUTTON and MACHINE DATA

Buttons for access to the HELP page relevant to the page displayed and label with de-
scription of machine model and serial number.

Å MACHINE STATUS INFO

This area of the layout provides real-time information about the tool currently
mounted on the machine, the currently active workpiece origin, spindle absorption
data, and the speeds currently set for the axes.

Æ SOFTKEY
Set of buttons with associated quick commands and special functions.

The manipulator and disk dressing softkeys are enabled only if the aggregates are
present.

: The ALARM REFRESH softkey, available in all the machine

pages, allows to reset the alarms and restore the NC status (in case of
machine in hold) without having to reset and therefore interrupt a
possible running program.
This will of course only take effect if the causes that triggered the
alarm have been resolved.
If the machine is in hold, even after the causes of the hold state have
been restored, it is necessary to press the ALARM REFRESH
softkey to confirm the alarm display and return the machine to the
rated operating conditions.

: The softkey turns red in case of alarms that can be RESET by acti-
vating it; for the remaining alarms press the RESET button of the
machine.

Ç SMARTSAW (only for venkon adv and kosmos models)

It enables switching from the Active interface to the CAD/CAM interface.

When the text is white, the function is disabled.

È AUTOMATIC ZEROING
When available, it enables starting the automatic zeroing cycle of the A axes; only in
case of a specific alarm (see list of operating messages) it is compulsory to start the cy-
cle on machining centre turn-on.
Press the CYCLE START softkey when prompted to zero by the special message and
wait a few seconds.

Note The softkey can only be started when the machining centre is idle, the spindle is sta-
tionary and the Z axis in safety position. Otherwise release it manually with active
TCP.
Also check that the rapid and work feed are other than 0 during the cycle.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1-7

Override management The machining centre is currently equipped with 3 potentiometers that manage the
feed override under different operating conditions.
Z
- Z Potentiometer .

it modulates the feed override of the Z-axis only when moving in JOG without
TCP active or when sinking with TCP active.
it modulates the feed override automatically only during the execution of the
MANUAL CUT program and in semi-automatic Z movements in the Manual
page.

XY
- Work (XY) Potentiometer .

it modulates the feed override of all other axes in the JOG (excluding Z) and dur-
ing the execution of any movements in G1 (excluding those controlled by the Z
potentiometer).

- Rapid Potentiometer .

it modulates the feed override during the execution of any mvements in G0.

The Z override is always displayed in the FEED Z window,

the active override (work or rapid) is displayed in the FEED window,

that are provided in each machining page.

1-8 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

Management of the work mode in JOG

The condition for activating the work mode is that the TCP dimension (machining or-
igin) is lower than the Z TCP dimension for work mode that can be set on the Main-
tenance page.
. Management of the work mode in JOG

In work mode, the axis feed speed (except for the Z axis) will be managed in JOG with
a reduced feed rate compared to that of standard manual mode. This way it will be eas-
ier to adjust the feed speed during manual cutting operations.
The operator has the possibility to enter the speed percentage (with respect to the
maximum speed) in work mode (20% default).
The operator can also set any Z TCP dimension value for work mode manually or via
softkey for the acquisition of the current dimension. It will also be the operator’s op-
tion to exclude it in case of setting a dimension lower than or equal to the bench zero
dimension.
Each time the machining centre is started, the dimension will be automatically reset to
a value equal to the bench zero dimension added to the Maximum machinable
workpiece thickness value, accessible only by CMS personnel.
The activation or deactivation of the reduced speed in work mode will only be carried
out at the end of a movement (with stationary axes).
The activation of the work mode will be indicated by the orange colour of the fields
referring to FEED XY on each page where they are provided.
. Feed Z and feed of the XY axes (orange colour) with active work mode

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1-9

Disk dressing page Access to the Disk dressing is enabled by pressing the button :

The editable changes are as follows:

- Stone size.
- Cycle settings.

Set the stone dimensions (editable through superuser password) only when it is nec-
essary to replace the stone or change the height of the stone support plate position.
The cycle settings concern the single cycle, which can be started by pressing the
CYCLE START button.

Note Enter the actual thickness of the stone in the machining centre.

It is possible to set a further limit of the Z sinking by entering it in Z Limit.

of the manipulator.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 13

Scada manipulator (only for venkon adv and kosmos models)

From the Maintenance page, by pressing the SCADA Manipulator button it is pos-
sible to access the SCADA, in order to monitor the suction cups, the pistons and the
vacuum during testing.
The rectangles next to the suction cups enable selecting the corresponding suction
cups; the LEDs indicate the state of inputs and outputs (gray = OFF, green = ON) .
The suction cups can only be activated in the SCADA manipulator page if:
- the machining centre is not in an emergency state,
- the spindle is at a standstill,
- the machining centre is in idle mode and the doors are closed.

In case of vacuum deactivation, in the SCADA manipulator page it is necessary to

re-select the suction cups to be activated.

Note For safety reasons it is not possible to deactivate the vacuum when the workpiece is
clamped.

Macro selection page
Access to the MACRO selection page is enabled by pressing the button:
This page enables access to multiple functions, intended to carry out the most com-
mon machining operations for this type of machine.

Access to submenus can be obtained by clicking on the corresponding image or, alter-
natively, on the key bearing the name of the submenu.

The blue-highlighted submenus are enabled and therefore selectable.

The grey-highlighted submenus are disabled and therefore not selectable.

Some functions are automatically enabled or disabled according to the type of tool
equipping the machine.

- The blade tool enables all cutting functions.

- The core drill tool only enables the drilling function.

- The milling cutter tool enables both drilling and milling functions.
When the machine is not provided with a spindle suitable for drilling and/or milling
equipment, the associated functions will be disabled and not selectable in any case.
The menu structure enables accessing the various macros quickly and intuitively.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 17

Each kitchen top provides the possibility of working the vertices of the cuts inside
each sink with a cutter or a core drill by selecting the flag below the special button.

By clicking on the button, it is possible to select the machining tool byz en-
tering the tool number in the appropriate field (from 1 to 40).
Depending on whether the tool is a milling cutter or a core drill, the parameters for
machining with one or the other tool will be displayed.
If a disk is selected, no parameter is also displayed.

On the page it is possible to set the dimensions of the radii of the edges (R1, R2, R3,
R4), up to 8 for the kitchen tops that provide for it, or it is possible to select the proper
flag (4 equal radii) to set a dimension for the entire breaking.
In the case the core drill is selected, it is possible to set 2 types of machining for the edges:

- : Drilling with internal radius (disk cutting with anticipated lead-out).

- : Drilling without internal radius (disk cutting without anticipated

lead-out).

Once the machining flag has been selected and the machining parameters have been
set, simply press START, the program will perform a manual tool change cycle to al-
low the operator to ensure that the correct tool is mounted.

Macro page instance
Access to the PENTAGON MACRO page is obtained by pressing the
button:
This page enables carrying out a pentagon-shaped workpiece.

The relevant HELP page displays content and functionalities in detail.

The REFERENCE DIMENSIONS are data required for the definition of the dimen-
sions of the workpiece to machine.

The CHECK DIMENSIONS, sometimes highlighted in red, are calculated by the

system automatically, so that the user may check the overall dimensions of the
workpiece compared to the machinable raw material.

All the MACRO pages have a dedicated menu that enables access to the most com-
mon functions.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 19

All the POLYGON macros, as well as the KITCHEN TOPS, provide the possibility
to set the cutting angle (especially numbered) for each side (in the kitchen tops, only
the external sides).

The POLYGON macros also provide the execution of the cut to obtain an external
workpiece or an internal breaking (like with the pentagon example).

The ALARM and ORIGINS keys enables access to the corre-

sponding pages.

The MACHINING key enables access to a page similar to the TOOL page.
This page displays the parameters of the tool currently installed on the machine and
the machining parameters associated with it.

As it can be noticed, the geometric parameters of the tool cannot be modified.

It is possible for the operator, though, only for this specific machining, to edit the ma-
chining parameters, such as speed and STEP or to enable/disable the back-and-forth
cutting mode, essential for carrying out curved cutting.
The modifications brought to the machining parameters, carried out in this mode, will
not overwrite the typical parameters entered in the TOOL page.
When the same (or another) tool is loaded, the parameters will be overwritten with
those entered in the database originally.
When the same (or another) tool is loaded, the parameters will be overwritten with
those entered in the database originally.

The GRAPHIC key enables the graphic display of the macro.

It is available in manifold pages of the interface; it is described in the paragraph below.

1 - 20 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

Graphic Page
Access to the GRAPHIC selection page is enabled by pressing the button:

This page can be accessed by various macros and functions residing in the software; it
enables the graphic display of the machining operations the machine will carry out on
cycle start.

The page displays the graphic view on the left and the macro-generated program on
the right. The + and – keys perform a zoom function.
The 3DVIEW and XYVIEW keys enabling passing from the plan view to the 3D
view and vice versa. The white lines represent the workpiece obtainable from machin-
ing, the yellow lines represent the tool path during machining, the light blue point rep-
resents the current position of the machine.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 21

Tool page
Access to the TOOL page is enabled by pressing the button:

The relevant HELP page displays content and functionalities in detail.

An identification name of up to 40 characters can be saved in all tools.

When a BLADE tool is selected the corresponding TOOL PAGE will open:

1 - 22 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

The relevant HELP page displays content and functionalities in detail.

The MAX motor voltage parameter is assigned to the tool with the aim of monitoring
its stress. When in the machining phase, the spindle will reach this threshold, the axis
feed will stop until the motor absorption diminishes, returning below the set threshold.
The parameters of the current active tool cannot be edited; if, from the tool list, the ac-
tive tool page is opened, all input fields will be in read-only mode.

Note The machining parameters may be edited afterwards also by accessing the
MACHINING page from the pages dedicated to specific macros (e.g. Multiple Cut
Page). The modifications brought to the machining parameters, carried out in this
mode, will not overwrite the typical parameters entered in the TOOL page and will be
adopted only during that specific machining operation.

When the CORE DRILL or MILLING CUTTER tool is selected, the correspond-
ing page will open:

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 23

The relevant HELP page displays content and functionalities in detail.

The Max Motor Voltage parameter is assigned to the tool with the aim of monitoring
its stress. When in the machining phase, the spindle will reach this threshold, the axis
feed will stop until the motor absorption diminishes, returning below the set threshold.

: The TOOL RESET button on the page of each tool allows

resetting all the parameters of the page, including the tool
type.

1 - 24 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

Template Detection Page
Access to the TEMPLATE DETECTION page is enabled by pressing the
button:

The TEMPLATE DETECTION function enables acquiring points from a template

or shape placed on the work table.
The aim is to be able to make cuts with one of the tools among blade saw and milling
cutter that replicate the path traced by the point acquired.

In order to correctly acquire the position of the points, it is possible to use the LASER X.
If the current tool selected on the machine is a milling cutter, machining will take
place with the cutter selected.
To do this, it will be necessary to set the machining parameters of the milling cutter
before machining, which can be done by pressing the softkey for the milling cutter,
which will be enabled only if the milling cutter is set.

After positioning the laser on the first point, press the button.
The following page will open after selecting the softkey of the milling cutter in the
TEMPLATE page, inside there are the pass and helical input parameter of the mill-
ing cutter; the machining, as for the disk, will occur up the Z dimension of the table.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 25

Once the acquisition procedure is started, use the GET POINT keys to acquire the
coordinates of the workpiece to be detected.

After positioning on the first point you can select the LINE button to ac-

quire the first point of a line or the CURVE button to acquire the first point
of a curve.
For the acquisition of a line it is possible to use the button representing the line that
will have to be pressed twice: to acquire the starting point of the line and to acquire the
final point.
For the acquisition of curves it is possible to use the proper button, which allows ac-
quiring a curve through three points; it will then be necessary to press the button three
times: to acquire the first point, the intermediate point and the final point.

In case of error, use the CANCEL LAST POINT (undo) key to annul the
acquisition of the coordinates of the last point acquired.

With the special button, if the shape to detect is a CLOSED PROFILE or an OPEN

PROFILE .

When acquisition is over, press END ACQUISITION .

When machining is finished, curves can only be machined if the selected tool is set for
multi-pass machining (from the TOOL page).

Pressing the keys, it is possible to previously-digitized tem-

plates, and also to store new ones in order to be able to reuse them.

The MACHINING, ORIGINS and GRAPHIC keys enable accessing the relevant
pages.
Before performing the cutting cycle, it is necessary to specify whether the cut must
carried out EXTERNAL TO THE PROFILE or INTERNAL TO THE PROFILE
detected.

External to the profile: In a closed profile, a cut EXTERNAL to the pro-

file enables obtaining from the cuts a workpiece with dimensions equal to
the profile detected.

1 - 26 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw

Internal to the profile: In a closed profile, a cut INTERNAL to the profile
enables obtaining from the cuts a breaking with dimensions equal to the
profile detected.

The detected profile is white, the blade path during the cut is yellow, the workpiece
origin is green (always the leftmost point in the workpiece).

It is also possible to IMPORT/EXPORT DXF .

The DXF import operation is restricted to the one single profile, maximum 100
items; the format supported is up to Autocad12 and it is possible to import and gener-
ate both lines and curves.

The DXF export is restricted to 100 points, therefore 99 items.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 27

Origin Page
Access to the ORIGIN page is enabled by pressing the button:

In the Origins page, a Rotary axes flag can be selected for each origin; if selected, the
input fields will appear on screen so that the origin dimensions can also be specified
for the rotary axes (red-coloured in the figure below):

The origin value of the C axis is used to rotate all machining operations around the Z
axis; the rotation will be applied in all on-board macros, but not in the user programs
(e.g. programs generated by CAD/CAM software).

Note In the Single cut, Multiple cut and Combined cut macros, if the Rotary axes option
has been ticked for the current origin, the rotation of the cuts will be taken from the or-
igin; on the contrary, if the flag is not ticked, the standard operation will take place,
i.e. the current C position of the head will be used as start position.

The origin value of the A axis is only used in the following macros instead:
- Single cut;
- Multiple cut;
- Combined cut;
- Detention cut.

In these macros, if the Rotary axes option has been ticked for the current origin,
the value of the A-axis origin will be used as the Disk inclination parameter.

The relevant HELP page displays content and functionalities in detail.

1 - 28 Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw
The Exclude Z key enables excluding the assignment of the new Z origin coordinate,
whatever the acquisition mode.

When activated it becomes red.

This enables, for instance, when carrying out various machining operations on
equally-thick materials, to acquire the workpiece Z origin only once and then merely
acquire the X, Y, A and C origin coordinates.

Chapter 1 - CMS Active Saw 1 - 29

ISO Page
Access to the ISO page is enabled by pressing the button:

The ISO page enables running the ISO G-CODE programs generated by external
CAMs or by the user. The interface is very similar to a standard operator interface of a
normal numerical control; it displays such information as machine coordinates, feed,
spindle data, etc.
In the top corner of the left side of the page the program loaded in the NC is displayed
and the lower side the graphic simulation of the machining operations under way.
By pressing the special keys it is possible to ZOOM and toggle the view on the XY or
3D plane.
The keys on display enable accessing the MACHINING OPERATIONS, ORIGINS
pages as well as opening and saving the files.

Various program execution modes are provided; they can be selected univocally
through the keys on display:

AUTO: Cycle executed automatically

MDI: Manual entry mode of commands

Blk/Blk: Completes the cycle one block at a time
