DETAILED LESSON PLAN (DLP) IN MATHEMATICS 10

Topic/ Lesson Name Circles

Time Allotment 60 minutes (September 11, 2019)
Teacher Geneva V. Macahia
Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
circles and coordinate geometry.
Performance Standards
The learners are able to is able to is able to: 1. formulate and find solutions to challenging
situations involving circles and other related terms in different disciplines through appropriate
and accurate representations; and 2. formulate and solve problems involving geometric figures
on the rectangular coordinate plane with perseverance and accuracy.
Learning Competencies
Derives inductively the relations among chords, arcs, central angles, and inscribed angles ;
M10GE-IIc-1

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify and name the chords, arcs, central angles and inscribed angles of a circle.
2. Determine the relation among chords, arcs, and angles of a circle.
3. Find the measure of chords, arcs, and angles of a circle.
4. Appreciate circles as vital part of one’s life through solving real-life problem involving
circles.
Elicit
Students will have a recall on the different parts of a circle. Students will be randomly called
using an application, Name Picker. Students that will be called will give a part of a circle and a
short description about it.

Engage
Students will apply their understanding on the different parts of a circle in an activity. This
activity will help students to be more familiarized with the parts of the circle specifically chords,
arcs, central angles and inscribed angles.

Mechanics:
a. The class will be divided into 4 groups.
b. Each group will use ⊙𝑂 to identify and name its different parts.
c. All groups will be given a maximum of 5 minutes name all parts of ⊙𝑂.
d. All answer will be posted for evaluation.

Use ⊙𝑂 to name the following parts:

1. Radii
2. Diameter
3. Chord
4. Arc
5. Semicircle
6. Minor Arc
7. Major Arc
8. Central Angle
9. Inscribed Angle
10. Intercepted Arc

Explore
With the same group students will do another activity called “Show me a Model”. This activity
will help students understand how the different parts of a circle can be modeled using real life
objects.

Mechanics:
1. The class will be divided into four groups.
2. Each group will randomly pick a picture. (Once each group picked a picture, they should
show the picture to the class and name it, as well as give a short description about it.)
3. Each group will model the different parts of the circle using the picture.
4. Each group should be able to provide list of the names of each part of the circle.
5. Students will be given a maximum of 5 minutes to do the activity.
6. Students will be evaluated using the given scoring rubrics.

Score Description

The model shows complete parts of a circle that are

10 points
properly named.
The model shows imaginative way of presenting different
5 points
parts of a circle.
5 points The model is clear and organize

5 points The model was done within the given span of time.

25 points Total

(The given pictures are a dart board, wheel, compass and a map.)
Explain
The preceding activities aim to develop students’ mastery on the different parts of the circle,
with their mastery, students will now develop an understanding on the relations of these parts.
It will be done through a picture analysis. Students will try to analyze a diagram and derive the
relation of the given parts of a circle. (Please see attached file to see all the diagrams to be
analyzed by the students as well as the relations of the different parts of a circle)

Elaborate
Students will find the measure of the given parts of the circle using their understanding about
the relations of different parts of a circle.

Extend
The Sky Eye is one of the main attractions in Skyranch Tagaytay. Given the figure below, find:
1. What is the distance between two couches on the opposite side of the ferris wheel, if the
radius is 10 ft.
2. If the central angle is 20°, what is the measure of the intercepted arc?
3. If an inscribed angle on the base of the ferris wheel measures 80°, what is the measure of
the intercepted arc?

Evaluate
As an assessment, students will have an activity called Give it to me! I’m worth it!

1. The class will be divided into 6 groups.

2. Each group will be making their own activity worksheet about the relationship of the different
parts of a circle.
3. The activity should include a figure to be analyzed and at least 7 items to be answered.
4. All groups will be given 30 minutes to finish their own activity worksheet.
5. After 30 minutes, all groups, through draw lots, will choose an activity worksheet that they
will answer. All group will be given 15 minutes to answer their chosen worksheet.
6. Students output will be evaluated using the given scoring rubrics.

Score Description

10 points Content (It depends on the number of correct answers.)

5 points Worksheet Items (Follows the required number of items and
encourages critical thinking)

5points Figure (Comprehensible and is coherent with the items)

5 points Originality and Organization

5 points Time Management

30 POINTS TOTAL SCORE

(NOTE: The whole activity is intended for the next meeting, giving of instruction as well
as the groupings will be done in today’s session)
