Module Overview
Figure 1 explains the operational structure of the C50
Dual Communications Board and its relationship to
the Electrobus interface and external modems. V.28 DCB

Communications Subsystem
The communications subsystem of the C50 RTU is RUN/FAIL
based on intelligent communication cards (see the
Dual Communications Module in Figure 2). These
cards contain a microprocessor, with associated RAM
and ROM. The onboard processor is responsible for
sending and receiving messages, as well as control
of the communications protocol. Communication with
the Master Processor Module occurs through shared
memory located on the Dual Communications
CH1
Module.
A serial communications controller (see Figure 3) and
external modem interface circuitry is used to
implement the two independent channels. The user
configures the communications controller during the
initial RTU configuration.
Error detection algorithms appropriate for each
supported communication protocol monitor
communication integrity. A high level of data integrity CH2
is guaranteed by rejecting corrupted messages.
