CS101A-Intoduction to Computer
1. A Backward Compatibility is a feature that supports the feature of an older
version.
An example would be that a Microsoft version 2007 can be read and open by new
Microsoft Version 2010.

2. All lines or text after which ENTER is pressed are called Paragraph.
Paragraph Marks are used to show or hide all the paragraph in a document.

3. Find option is used to find any specific word in a document. It is found in:
Home tab > Editing group > Find option
You can find any word in a document by typing the specific word in the find
dialog box. It will show every time this word is used in a document.
SHORTCUT KEY: CTRL+F

Replace option is used to replace any specific word to a new one. It is also found
in:
Home tab > Editing group > Find option
You can replace any word in a document by typing the specific word in a replace
dialog box and new in replace what option. But be careful, because if you want to
replace the word BANK with another word it will replace all the BANK word even
if the word is Banking.

4. Format printer option is used to copy a formatting from a heading, line, text,
paragraph and paste the same formatting to a new word, line or paragraph. We can
use it as follows:
Select the text, heading or paragraph whose formatting you want to copy. You can
either use short cut key CTRL+SHIFT+C (to copy) and CTRL+SHIFT+V (to
paste) or you can click the format painter from Clipboard group in Home tab and
use the brush to paint over the selected heading, text or paragraph.

5. By Header, you can add any text, number or character at the top of every page.
by Footer you can add any text, number or character at the bottom of every page.
It is located in Insert tab and is 8 group of the insert tab.

6. A SmartArt graphic is a visual representation of your ideas and information.


You can choose from variety of SmartArt graphic present in MS Word. It ranges
from graphical list to process diagrams to more complex diagrams.
7. You can customize the Margins by going to Layout Tab > Page setup group >
Margins option. By clicking on Margins, a list of margins appears and at the end
there is an option of customize margin. There are further options available like top,
bottom, left, right, gutter and you can add the number to your own fitting.

8. Page size option will help you in choosing the size of your document by giving
many size options like A4, legal, envelope etc.

9. Utility software analyzes, maintain, configures and optimizes the computer


where as application software help users to perform specific task according to their
own personal need.
Example of utility software: antivirus software, backup tool, file manager etc.
Example of application software: google chrome, Firefox, MS office etc.

10. The process of three stages of instruction, Fetching, Decoding and Executing
are known as Machine cycle.
Fetching gets the instruction from memory into the processor whereas executing
takes the value from register and add them together.

11. Transition are applied to a slide or a whole presentation whereas animation are
applied to a specific object or element

12. You can add slides from slide group in insert tab. There are many built-in
office theme slides that you can use. Or you can select slide layout, reuse slide or
you can add duplicate selected slides.
