Assignment No:2 Complex Engineering Problem (CLO-3) (06 Marks)

Question 1: Figure shows the one-line diagram of a simple power three bus power system with generation at bus 1. the magnitude of
voltage at bus 1 is adjusted to 1.05 p.u. The scheduled loads at buses 2 and 3 are as marked on the diagram. Line impedances are
marked in per unit on a 100 MVA base and the line charging susceptance are neglected.
(a) Using the Gauss-seidel method, determine the phasor values of the voltage at the load buses (P-Q buses) 2 and 3 accurate to
four decimal places.
(b) Find the slack bus real and reactive power.
(c) Determine the line flows and line losses. Construct a power flow diagram showing the direction of the line flows.

(d) Design the above example in Power World Simulator and show the images of its admittance matrix, power flow diagram with
real power losses, reactive power losses, power flows. The sample Figure is given below for your reference.
Question 2: In the power system shown in Fig, Bus 1 is a slack bus with V1 = 1.0 p.u and bus 2 is a load bus with S2 = 280 MW +
j60 Mvar. The line impedance on a base of 100 MVA is Z12 = 0.02+j0.04 p.u. (a) Find the bus admittance matrix.
 (b) Using the Gauss-seidel method, determine the V2 after two iterations using initial estimate of V2(0) = 1.0 + j0.0.
 (c) if after several iterations voltage at bus 2 converges to V2 = 0.90 - j0.10, determine S1 and the real and reactive power loss
in the line. Construct a power flow diagram showing the direction of the line flows.

(d) Design the above example in Power World Simulator and show the images of its admittance matrix, power flow diagram with
real power losses, reactive power losses, power flows.
Question 3: Figure shows the one-line diagram of a simple three-bus power system with generation at bus 1. The voltage at bus 1 is
V1 = 1.0 with zero degree per unit. The scheduled loads on buses 2 and 3 are marked on the diagram. Line impedances are marked in
per unit on a 100 MVA base. For the purpose of hand calculations, line resistances and line charging susceptances are neglected.
 (a) Find the bus admittance matrix.
(b) Using the Gauss-seidel method, determine the phasor values of the voltage at the load buses (P-Q buses) 2 and 3 upto two
iterations.
 (c) if after several iterations voltage at bus 2 converges to
V2 = 0.90 - j0.10 p.u, and V3 = 0. 95 - j0. 05 pu.
(c) Find the slack bus real and reactive power.
(d) Determine the line flows and line losses. Construct a power flow diagram showing the direction of the line flows.

(e) Design the above example in Power World Simulator and show the images of its admittance matrix, power flow diagram with
real power losses, reactive power losses, power flows.
