On a Vessel the true altitude of sun East of the meridian was observed to be 12* 21.2’ at GMT
22 July 1992 16h 15m 26s at the same time the sextant MERIDIAN altitude of the Moons Upper
Limb was 54* 47.4’ south of the observer. Calculate the position of the vessel at that instant of the
I.E was 2.3’ ON the ARC and H.E.- 25m?
(Note: DR Lat & Long is not been given in the Numerical because of which you would have solve the
MOON’s part first to get Observer’s Lat as the MOON is on the observers meridian
LHA = 360*/0* and MOON BEARING SOUTH the Position line you get from it will be (E~W) thereby
giving their Observers latitude only. Do not use this to find the observers longitude as that would be
DR Longitude only.

Using the Latitude obtained from Moon, you would have to solve the SUN’s PZX Triangle to get the
second position line and the OBSERVED longitude.

Where 2 position line INTERSECTS will the Observers position @ 22d 16h 15m 26s?
