Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE-Electrical Installation and Maintenance 10 on Types of

Wiring Devices (Part1)

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the Learner:

Welcome to the TLE-Electrical Installation and Maintenance 10 on Types of

Wiring Devices (Part1)

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

LESSON

Wiring devices are current-carrying electrical or electronic products

that serve primarily as a connection or control point for electrical circuits
within a spread of 0–400 amperes, 0–600 volts (AC and DC), and AC/DC
(660 watts, 1,000 volts AC fluorescent) like wise as certain non-current-
carrying wiring devices.

According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), a tool maybe a

unit of an electrical system that’s intended to hold, to not to utilize

electric energy. This covers a large assortment of system components that

include, but not limited to the following:

1. Switches – is
an electrical component which will
disconnect or connect the
conducting path in a circuit,
interrupting the electrical current or
diverting it from one conductor to a
different one.

2. Relays – is an electrically
operated switch. It consists of a
group of input terminals for a one or
multiple control signals, and a
collection of operating contact
terminals. The switch may have any
number of contacts in multiple
contact forms, such as make
contacts, break contacts, or
combinations thereof.

3. Contactors - is a device which is

employed used for switching
an electrical circuit on or off. ... These
contacts are in most cases normally
open and supply operating power to
the load when the contactor coil is
energized. Contactors are most
ordinarly used for
controlling electric motors.

4. Receptacles - providing
an area during a wiring system
where current will be taken to
run electrical devices. electric
outlet, electrical receptacle,
outlet wall plug,
wall socket, outlet. power point,
point - a wall socket.

5. Conductors - In physics
and electrical engineering,
a conductor is an object or
kind of material that
permits the flow of charge
(electrical current) in one or
more directions. Materials
product of metal are
common electrical
conductors.

ACTIVITIES

Activity: Matching Type

Directions: Match column A with column B.

Column A Column B
1. Conductor A. is an electrical component that can disconnect
or connect the conducting path in n electrical circuit
2. Contactors B. is an electrically operated switch. It consists of a
set of input terminals for a single or multiple control
signals, and a set of operating contact terminals.
3. Receptacles C. is an electrical device which is used for switching
an electrical circuit on or off. ...
4. Relays D. providing a place in a wiring system where
current can be taken to run electrical devices.
5. Switch E. In physics and electrical engineering,
a conductor is an object or type of material that
allows the flow of charge (electrical current) in one
or more directions.
