I will ensure that the permit is signed by the initiator, the shop foreman/supervisor, HED Maint Foreman and authorised by
Powai Safety Department (PSF) before starting the work. I will be available at site throughout the period of work.

2. Take the necessary advice from the shop floor supervisor before starting the work.
3. Ensure that the workers know the hazards in the job and safety precautions to be taken while at work.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARRYING OUT WORK ON OR NEAR
CRANE AND CRANE RAILS
BEFORE STARTING THE MAINTENANCE WORK OF THE CRANE :

1) IF THE WORK IS TO BE CARRIED OUT ON THE CRANE :

(a) Switch Off the power supply to crane by pressing the stop button on the remote handset and
remove the magnetic key.
(b) Handover the remote control handset to the concerned Plant Maintenance
Supervisor.
(c) Put the selector switch on the crane to manual operation mode and put on the
Red Flasher on then crane to indicate “Crane under Maintenance”
(d) Provide stoppers and red flashers on the crane rails so that the cranes on both
sides can not approach within 6 metres from the site of work.

2) BEFORE STARTING THE MAINTENANCE WORK OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTING

FITTINGS / ESTATE MAINTENANCE ETC. USING CRANE :

(a) Follow above-mentioned instruction 1.(a).

(b) Send a shop floor person carrying the remote handset for the respective crane
alongwith crews to operate the crane.
(c) Inform the crane operators of the cranes adjacent to this crane before providing
stoppers.
(d) Provide stoppers on the crane rails so that the cranes on both sides cannot
approach within 6 metres from the site of the work.
NOTE* : Before providing stoppers on crane rails between E1-E2, E2-E3, & E5-
E6, remote handsets of the cranes in the vicinity in both the adjacent bays must
be taken into custody by plant maintenance supervisor.

3) BEFORE STARTING THE WORK ON OR NEAR THE CRANE RAILS :

(a) If the work is to be carried out near Down Shop Leads (DSL) Safety Card No. 3
(working near live electrical lines) is to be obtained with the regular work permit.
(b) Arrange to provide stoppers on the crane rails so that the cranes on both sides
cannot approach within 6 metres from the site of the work and also mount the
Red Flashers as mentioned above in 1(d).
Note: Follow instructions as given in NOTE* in 2(d) above for work in E-shops.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. Ensure that Radiography is not ‘ON’ in the concerned area by Checking the Red
lights on X - Ray enclosure and the columns
2. In no case the cranes will be operated through remote control or otherwise by any
person other than trained shop floor person.
3. Ensure that safe access/egress to the work site is provided during the entire period
of work especially in E - shops.
4. The persons who are going to work at any place on the crane from where there is a
chance of falling must use safety belts and anchor them properly during the period
of work.
 5. Ensure the safety of the persons working below on the shop floor by barricading
the area or by any other effective means.
