Sports diary 2018 season with a difference

The year 2018 for Harare Central Division saw yet another great season for sports with a
difference. This was a good chance for almost every youth to participate in at least one or even more
on the activities on the list. In the past years ball games especially soccer, netball, volleyball among
others were found leading sports during the Youth Councils. This season was a different season all
together in terms of sports.

Athletics, bucket mania, tug of war, sack race, tie race, chess among other activities were so popular
this season. However due to time some of the activities could not be done. This sports season really
started with a bang. Almost every youth was so expecting and looking forward to have a great sports
day and were really wondering what a day it will be like.

Athletes were so jovial and with so much interest in the various categories, that is 100meters 200
metres, 400metres and relays which was the favourite of many. The youths were divided into various
teams. It was so overwhelming, the teams were so united regardless of where one comes from, the
youths were able to work together though it was competition, one could agree that it was being done
in the name of love showing that the youths are all Salvationists which had one goal and was clear
that they really were appreciating the talents that each and every one got. The youths were into their
thing, it was such a wonderful time for athletics, some falling down, some untouchable, it was a good
time indeed.

Bucket mania was yet another favourite sport for many, it only needed a little bit of thinking on how
to handle the containers they were running with, that which contained the water. Just a few tactics
were needed that some youths were able to do however it is not all that are a able to make it at the end
of the day. Ding-ding !haa, a bad news for others who could just run with all the speed that you can
think of but without that tactic of handling the container. A bad news indeed because all the water
would fall and get to the bucket with nothing.

Tug of war was a bomb. All those people that are gifted body wise were so happy and looking
forward to tug of war with passion. However to make it at this game, it was not just a matter of a huge
body but it also needed a bit more tactics of placing the right person at the right position and those
people were supposed to work in order to lead the opponents another great strategy of well
positioning one’s legs was also considered in the game otherwise it will be a huge body standing and
not doing anything tangible .It was such a happy game for all.

Usually the youths are so happy during sports, this year the mood was much more than the usual.
During sports they have more time to socialise with the other youths from various corps, they
however requested for a radio in the future sports to come. Some youths even suggested that it will
also be a good thing to add one more category of dancing as amongst the youths are there that can do
well in terms of dancing and they also need the church to appreciate their talents.

However in Shona they say, “hakuna nyika isina rinda”.Indeed there were few youths who were not
happy with the kind of sports activities that were held this season. One youth from Mhondoro section
said that “We wanted ball games, something that we are used to

After all have been said abs done.The overall results were as follows; Hopely had 10 points being the
least of them all.Mubayira following up with 17 points, Glen norah with 24 points, Paradise followed
up with 34 points, Rugare had 36 points together with Southgate on the same position . Southly Park
were able to attain 44 points, Kawara with 48 points, same position was Waterfalls Citadel.Gobvu
following up with 50 points.Shirichena Citadel together with Budiriro Corps had 56 points followed
by Kambuzuma with 58 points Retreat also led well with 64 points same position was Glen View
Citadel.The leading three corps comprised of Glen Eagles in the third position with 65 points, second
position was Budiriro 5 with 72points and the champions of them all in the year 2018 Season being
Highfield Temple with 94 points.

This season was one of the most bliss season. A sports with a difference with so much unity amongst
all the youths. One could really agree that this sports season also ended up with a bang Youths are
looking forward to such and even more in the next season and were saying more time can also be
given to sports so that all the activities are done.
