PRE-FLIGHT

1. Take the logbook and make sure aircraft is open on the MR


2. Complete PRE-FLIGHT INSPECTION
3. Take note of fuel & oil quantity
4. Set heading bug & radio frequency
5. Listen and copy ATIS ½ hour before
6. Complete weight & balance calculations
7. Copied Area Brief & look for YPJT & YPPH
8. Look for Instructor 30 min before ETD & conduct brief

ENGINE START TO TAXI

1. Start Clearance – Request for Start Clearance (for circuits)

Listen to the ATIS – 120.9 MHz

On 124.3 MHz

Pilot : Jandakot Ground, Cessna 172, [callsign], Northern Apron, received [ATIS code], request start clearance for
circuits
SMC : [callsign], Jandakot Ground, start approved
Pilot : [callsign]

Start-up clearance is required from Jandakot Ground, 124.3, for circuits. This is a separate call to your request for
taxi clearance. Whether departing or arriving, remember that taxi clearance is always required to enter taxiway
Bravo.

5. Taxi Clearance – Request taxi clearance

Listen to the ATIS – 120.9 MHz

On 124.3 MHz

Pilot : Jandakot Ground, Cessna 172, [callsign], Northern Apron, received [ATIS code], request taxi for [circuits or
training area via [appropriate departure point]], [dual or solo]
SMC : [callsign], Jandakot Ground, taxi [holding point], [runway], [time check]

Note: If your taxi instruction includes the term ‘holding point [runway]’ or ‘hold short of [runway]’, you are required to
read back the instruction as stated in your taxi clearance.

6. Taxi Brief

The Taxi Brief is given after receiving the Taxi Clearance. It must be conducted with a picture of the Jandakot
runway diagram from the Jeppesen.

Our expected taxi route is down the Northern apron towards the Central apron. We will take the first major right
hand taxiway to the Bravo 5 run-up bay. We will then taxi along Bravo 4, Bravo 3, Bravo 2, turn left into Sierra 1 and
hold short of runway 06L.
TAXI FROM PARKING AREA TO RUN-UP BAY

1. Taxi

 Begins at 1000 RPM


 Once moving, reduce to 800 RPM
 Use brakes sparingly
 Check brakes
 Identify taxiways – when approaching a taxiway, call out ‘Taxiway Bravo identified’
 Always LOOKOUT

3. Stop In Run-Up Bay

 Park in the run-up bay with prop wash pointing into the tire wall
 Avoid pointing prop wash into other aircraft or over taxiways

3. Safety Brief

 This will be a left/right-hand seat take-off


 Take-off power is 2065 RPM
 Flap set to _________ degrees
 Rotation speed is 60 kts

 Call out any malfunction or warning
 When any malfunction occurs before rotation, I will call “STOP” or “GO”
 Before rotation, I will reject the take-off for an engine failure or condition that significantly affects the safety of
the flight
 If an engine failure occurs after rotation, I will select the glide attitude and complete the EFATO drill
 In event of real emergency, I will remain in control until you positively indicate you are taking over

(b) State initial climb altitude prior to turn and direction of turn
(c) State departure segments and altitudes

 RWY in use is 06L


 At 600 ft indicated I will make left turn onto crosswind
 I will continue to climb and level at 1000 ft indicated
 I will make a left turn onto downwind, and at late downwind and track towards Yangebup Lake
 At Yangebup Lake, I will make a left turn towards Lake Thomson
RWY 24R

 RWY in use is 24R


 At 600 ft indicated I will make slight right turn and track towards Yangebup Lake
 I will continue to climb and level at 1000 ft indicated
 At Yangebup Lake, I will make a left turn towards Lake Thomson

5. Taxi to Holding Point

 When taxiing for circuits and crossing runways

On 124.3 MHz

Pilot : Jandakot Ground, [callsign] at Golf, request cross 06L for 06R
SMC : [callsign], at Golf, cross 06L, taxi holding point 06R
Pilot : Cross 06L, taxi holding point 06R, [callsign]

 Check the taxiway signs and identify the taxiway and holding point as you approach and enter.

‘Taxiway Sierra identified, holding point runway 06L identified’

 Stop before the Yellow lines and cock aircraft into the approach so you can see any aircraft on final.

2. Track to required inbound point – Six South


 Ensure you are at 1,500 ft prior to arriving at Six South

3. Training Area to Six South – Radio Call

 When overhead Six South you must establish 2 way communications with ATC

4. Six South to Forrestdale Lake – Enroute

 Track direct to the western edge of Forrestdale lake at 1,500 ft


 Keep a good lookout and listen out on the radio for other inbound traffic. Keep Situational Awareness.

5. Six South to Forrestdale Lake – Radio Call

 Once overhead Forrestdale Lake, report position.

6. Forrestdale Lake to Jandakot – Enroute

 Turn and track towards Jandakot – approximately heading 330°


 Aim for overhead the tower
 Maintain 1,500 ft
 Abeam prison, reduce power to 2,000 RPM and slow the aircraft down. This will assist speed control in the
descent and give you more time to sight the traffic.

7. When overhead Jandakot

 Follow tower instruction on when to descend & rejoin circuit pattern at circuit altitude – 1,000 ft – for landing.

AFTER LANDING

1. Exit the Runway

 The aircraft is not clear of the runway until the entire aircraft is past the holding point.
 Stop when there enough room for at least on other aircraft behind you.

2. Once stopped change frequency to Jandakot Ground – 124.3 MHz

3. Complete AFTER LANDING Check – Follow checklist

4. Request Taxi Clearance

On 124.3 MHz

Pilot : Jandakot Ground, [callsign], on Foxtrot, for the Northern Apron


ATC : [callsign], taxi to the Northern Apron
Pilot : Taxi to Northern Apron, [callsign]

5. If you required to cross a runway on the realm, your taxi call should be:

6. Taxi and park at SFC

 When taxiing up to the Northern Apron, remember that it is good airmanship to not further delay a departing
SFC aircraft.
 Never taxi the C172 into a parking bay.

7. Complete SHUTDOWN Check – Follow checklist

AFTER THE FLIGHT

 Dip fuel and note tachometer hours


 Take out the logbook and close the aircraft on the MR
