If you could conduct a scientific survey on any topic, what would it be? Who would be your population?
For instance, would you like to know about parents' attitudes toward teenagers? Would you like to know
about people's views on how politics affects their quality of life? Do you want to know the future of the
music industry?

1. What would you like to investigate in your survey?

2. Name the population you want to study, for instance, "all people aged 18 – 22 in the United States"
or "all professional baseball players in the National League."

3. What kind of a sample would you use to investigate your question? Describe any problems you
might encounter when drawing a sample. For instance, are some parts of the population more
difficult to contact?

Note: In research, there are methods for determining how large your sample needs to be and how
to draw your sample. For this activity, we will ignore these aspects of sampling.
4. Write four survey questions for your survey. Remember to avoid question-wording bias.

5. How will people in your sample be surveyed? Will interviewers call them, will it be sent in the mail,
or will there be a Web site where people can respond?
