Advantages of a Traditional Nuclear Family

A nuclear family can be considered as a family consisting of socially approved two parents
and their biological children. Married couple and their one or more children which are biological
belonging to both the parents. In a traditional nuclear family, relatives, foster or step or adopted
children, are not included.

A traditional nuclear family has its own advantages and disadvantages. So, let’s have a
look at common merits of a traditional nuclear family.

1. Less number of family members:

Having a family consists of only two parents and their biological children may have a less
number of family members. It puts less stress on the earning person’s head, simply because
less people need less.

2. Less space:

One can have a comfortable living with only small available space at their home. Because,
the risk of running out of space in a big families is greater as compared to the nuclear family.
It also saves money and maintains a balance in one’s financial condition.

3. Commonly less number of family problems:

Every family can have some problems, disputes, and issues. But, the risk is lower in a
family where number of family members is not larger. A mother or a father can easily take
care of children if they are less in number. Children can get more attention, better health
and nutrition. In a nuclear family, it is easier to fulfil the demands of children or any other
member, simply because they are less in number.

4. Children’s future:
In a small family , parents can easily focus on their children’s education and career. They
may be provided with more medical attention and have healthier future.

There are many advantages of a nuclear family, but as we know that a coin has two
sides. Same applies here. In a small family, people may feel loneliness and chances of
depression are higher. However, if the earning member of family is unable to earn, the
whole family gets in trouble, because usually in a traditional nuclear family, all members of
the family rely on a single person commonly one of the parents.

However, no matter what type of family it is, there could be problems. Things that
work in a family is not the number of family members, but the relationships and love they
have for each other. One should do every possible thing to make sure that his family’s
requirements are being fulfilled. In a family every member has to contribute something to
make it work. Because a family is a family after all.
