Logistics & Supply Chains Management Assignment 1

Date: 11/19/20

1. Did it surprise you that logistics can be such an important component in a country’s
economic system? Why or why not?

Ans.

No it didn’t. Actually in Marketing Management I’ve submitted a project about

Marketing strategy for a digital platform named “Sena3a.com” and the Idea of it was to
shorten long supply chain and uncover unknown areas of industries existing and doing
business in the Egyptian Market, our Vision was "We will ensure that "Made In Egypt" is
possible, easy, and cheaper" and our Mission statement was "We will connect all
production facilities in Egypt from small workshops to mega plants within no time
through easy to use and powerful platform" and I hope this idea sea light soon and
that’s why I was not surprised.

But what surprised me that Logistics can reach 10% of a country GDP and how it affects
the macro economy greatly even my analysis for a lot of things have changed greatly.
For example, now I knew why the government are constructing two roads connecting
Ain Sakhna Port to Damietta Port.

2.Distinguish between possession, form, time, and place utility.

Ans.

Possession utility is the value or usefulness that comes from a customer being able to
take possession of a product. Form “utility” refers to a product’s being in a form that
can be used by the customer and value to the customer. Place utility is having products
available where they are needed by customers; products are moved from points of
lesser value to points to points of greater value. Time utility refers to having products
available when they are needed by customers. “investopedia.com”

or desirable for them. Companies analyze how to create or maximize their products'
time utility and adjust their production process, logistical planning of manufacturing,
and delivery.

Place

We might here the sentence “The Nearest to you” in many advertising captains for a
Bank or and a service provider, and it’s used because people are becoming more and
more busy and they seek for the near and fast.

Place utility refers primarily to making goods or services physically available or

accessible to potential customers. Examples of place utility range from a retail store's
location to how easy a company's website or services are to find on the internet.
Companies that have effective search engine optimization or SEO strategies can improve
their place utility. SEO is the process of increasing a website's availability to internet
users through their searches on the web.

4.How can a particular logistics system be effective but not efficient?

Ans.

Any system not just logistics system can be effective if it succeeded to accomplish its
task, but not efficient if it consumed unnecessary sources i.e. didn’t succeed to utilize its
available resources.

‫ــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ‬

Explain the significance of the fact that the purpose of logistics is to meet customer
requirements.

Ans.

As Joseph M. Juran said “Quality is Customer satisfaction” and from my point of view it’s
the simplest way to define Quality and Value together. We live in a rapidly changing
market and increasing convenience for customers can be a key element in attracting
business. A company that offers easy access to technical assistance offers an added
value in comparison to a similar company that does not offer a similar service. Making a
product available in a wide variety of stores and locations is considered an added value
since its more convenient. For example, Apple Inc. (AAPL) sells iPhones and laptops
through its retail stores, but also offers its products through other electronics retailers,
including Best Buy Co. Inc. (BBY).
