the Player hand or the Banker hand.
Player Pair or Banker Pair refer to the first two (2) cards of either the Player hand
or the Banker hand dealt, which form a pair (for example, 10, 10 or K, K).
Tie means that the outcome of Player and Banker hands have the same point
count.
“Coup” equals one full round of play comprising a Player hand and a Banker hand.

The Cards
The game shall be played with eight (8) decks of cards, with standard deck containing 52
cards.
Introduction
The object of the game is to bet on the hand (Banker or Player) that will finish
closest to the total of nine (9).
He / she may wager on a Player Pair (the first two cards for the Player being
a pair, e.g. 10, 10 or K, K). If this bet wins, it will be paid at 11:1 odds.
He / she may wager on a Banker Pair (the first two cards for the Banker
being a pair, e.g. 10, 10 or K, K). If this bet wins, it will be paid at 11:1 odds.
He / she may bet on the Player by placing a bet in the circle marked Player.
Should this bet win, it will be paid even money (1 to 1).
He / she may bet on the Banker, by placing a bet in the circle marked
Banker. Should this bet win, it will be paid even money, except when the
winning value was 6, and then the bet will be paid at odds of 1 to 2 (or even
money less 50%).
3|Page
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
He / she may bet on a Tie (Player and Banker having the same total). This
bet shall be placed on the Tie line/area (just above the circle marked Banker if
there is no indication on the layout). Should this bet win, it will be paid at odds
of 8 to 1.
Tens, Kings, Queens and Jacks have a value of zero. Aces have a value of one and any
other card is taken at face value.
The "point count" of a hand shall be a single digit number from zero to nine inclusive
and shall be determined by totaling the value of the cards in the hand. If the total is
ten or over, the first digit will be ignored.
Examples:
(A point count of zero shall be termed "Baccarat". e.g. 9 + Ace = 10, therefore the
point count is 0, i.e. “Baccarat”).
To illustrate how the hand values in Baccarat work, several example hands are listed
below. Keep in mind that in a game of Baccarat you can not have a hand value of ten or
more. If you do go over ten then ten is removed from the value. Please note that the
hands listed on this page are only examples and there are many other ways to get the
same hand values.
Card Values
Baccarat is the only casino game where the face cards of jacks, queens and kings are
actually bad. This is because they all have a value of zero. Tens also have a value of
zero. Aces are always worth one and the other cards, two through nine all have their
face value. Like Blackjack, suits have no value and are irrelevant.

Card Values
General Examples
The following examples show you how the count works for Baccarat hands. For a very
simple way to always know the count always use the number on the right if you have a
double digit count and discard the number on the left.
Hand Values
The first hand shown above is the best possible Baccarat hand to get. There are many
ways to get a total of nine from the first two cards so six and three is just an example.
This hand always wins unless the other hand also has nine. No additional cards are dealt
with a natural.
The second hand is an example of what happens when you go over ten. In this case the
total of the cards is 15 so to get the Baccarat hand value you have to deduct the 10
5|Page
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
The third hand is an example of a hand that has an additional third card dealt to it. The
initial two card hand was worth zero or Baccarat (10 + 10 = 20, take away the 2 and you
have 0). In this example the third card was a three giving the hand a total of three.
Play shall begin when the dealer announces “Place your bets, please”. Once the
dealer states “No more bets”, the bets are effectively closed.
Four (4) initial cards shall be dealt from the shoe. The first and third cards will
be the Player’s hand and the second and fourth cards will be the Banker’s hand.
These four cards shall be used to determine wagers (if any) placed for either of
the side bets - “Player Pair” or “Banker Pair”.
This side wager wins if the first two cards dealt to the Player or the Banker are any of
the following:
(a) a mixed pair (2 cards that are exactly alike except for suit and color),
(b) a colored pair (2 cards that are exactly alike (including color) except for suit); or
(c) a perfect pair (2 cards that are exactly alike including suit).
Guests may place a wager on Player Pair, Banker Pair or both, but he/she must also have
a bet on Player, Banker or Tie.
Subsequent cards to be drawn by either the Player or Banker are subject to the
3rd card rules in accordance with the Baccarat Tableau (or Table of Play), outlined
below. If the Player does not draw a third card, the Banker shall stand on 6 and
draw on point values 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

is valued at one (1) and all other cards have their numerical face values. The point
2count of a hand shall be a single digit number from 0 to 9 which is determined by
totaling the value of the cards in hand and, if required, subtracting the tens.
The units shall constitute the point count of the hand. Nine (9) is the highest
count, eight (8) is the second highest and so on in descending order. The hand
(Player or Banker) with the higher point count is the winner.
After the dealer has announced the point count of the Player's and the Banker's
first two cards, the game is always governed by the tableau or ‘third card rule' – and
an additional card may be required to be dealt to one or both of the hands.
If the Player and the Banker hands have the same point count, a ‘Tie’ game is
denoted. In this instance, the original bets placed on the Player and Banker bet spots
may be withdrawn by the guest.

When the hands have been completed by the rules laid down in the tableau (i.e. a
table of rules in playing Baccarat listing the circumstances when a third card should
be drawn), the dealer will announce the winning hand and point total first, then the
losing point total.

Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
When the game is opened, eight decks of cards will be spread out, face up, on the
table for visual inspection by the Supervisor to arrive at the table.
The dealer will check the front and back of the cards by holding a deck of cards in
one hand and passing the cards one at a time to the other hand, looking for any flaws.
The first time this is done, the fronts of the cards are checked to ensure they are
all present and no disfiguring marks are apparent. The second time this is done, the
backs of the cards will be checked for any flaws which may necessitate replacement
(see below).
9|Page
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
2. Spread
The checked decks are spread on the table face up so any passenger who wishes
to do so, may also see that all the cards are present. If possible, this spreading of the
cards should be done with one sweep of the hand. It is unnecessary for every single
card to be showing unless a player requests it (see below).
All decks will be dealt with in the same manner until they are all spread face up on
the table (four on one side and four on the other - see below).
After the cards have been properly visually inspected, the dealer will follow the
below shuffle procedure. At this time, cards should be spread face down one deck at
a time to ensure no cards are face up. The dealer will go to each deck in turn and:
close it up,
turn it face downwards,
riffle it three (3) times and
10 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
This will be done to all decks placing them in eight spreads - four each side (see
below).
Wash - Dealer shall turn cards face down and wash them thoroughly:-
The cards from one side of the table will be washed and left in one pile (see
below).
Make sure the dealer properly washes 4 decks of cards on his/her left for
one minute.
11 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
Then the remaining four (4) decks from the other side will be washed (see
below).
The dealer should sufficiently wash the 4 decks of cards on his/her right for
another minute, and then
the two piles of cards will be mixed thoroughly together until a good wash is
achieved (see below).
12 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
This final mix of all 8 decks together will be for another minute. This means
that total wash should be at least 3 minutes.
13 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
Once all 8 decks are in the discard rack, they will be brought out and
shuffled. The cards will be shuffled according to the standard Global Casino
Operations procedure as detailed in the BLACKJACK SHUFFLE PROCEDURE
section, but in reverse order (outlined below).
14 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
3. Cards
To be shuffled as the reverse of the standard Blackjack shuffle, i.e. two stacks
shuffled into two stacks, then combined and riffled once into one stack.
The dealer will remove the cards from the discard rack and place them in
two stacks in the middle of the table, one on the left and the other on the right.
Stacks numbered 1 and 2.
1 2
At this point, the dealer will take ½ a deck from each stack and riffle
together once to make one full deck. ½ of the riffled deck will be placed on the
(dealer’s) left side of the table, forward of stack 2 to make stack 3 (see below).
1 2
15 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
½ a deck will be taken from stack 2 and riffled once with the cards remaining
in the dealer’s right hand.
Then ½ of the cards in the dealer’s hand will be placed on the right side of
the table, in front of stack 1, creating stack 4 (see below).
1 2
4 3
½ a deck will be taken from stack 1 and riffled once with the cards remaining
in the dealer’s left hand.
o (If you study the above images, you will note the ‘weaving’ effect
throughout).
16 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
This process will continue until all the cards are contained in stacks 3 and 4
(i.e. stacks 1 and 2 have gone).
After the last riffle is completed, all the cards in the dealer’s hand will go on
top of the stack that is to next receive cards. Do not split the last riffled deck in
two and put ½ on each stack.
17 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
The last stack to receive cards will have the other stack put on top of it to
from one final stack. (So, that means that the final deck riffled should be
somewhere in the middle of the one stack).
The dealer will then split the complete stack of 8 decks into 2 separate, and
equal, piles.
18 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
The dealer will then take ½ a deck from each stack and riffle together once.
Now these cards will be placed in between the 2 stacks to form stack 3.
1 2
The process will be repeated until all cards are contained within stack 3.
The final result will be one complete stack (#3) containing all shuffled cards,
nicely riffled.
19 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
This means you should effectively see one card from the left on top of the next
card from the right, and the third card from the left again.
A proper shuffle with a nice riffle will not include ‘stumps’ or clumps or cards (see
above illustrations).
Before cards are pushed together, the dealer will need to get shuffle approval
from the Supervisor that cards are evenly riffled. If the Supervisor is not
satisfied that the decks have been properly shuffled, he/she will request an
additional shuffle.
Use the shoe for resistance – a wall to guide the cards that jut out, into place.
20 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
4. Cut
When all the cards are shuffled, the dealer will offer the cut card to a player.
Offer the stack of cards to the player in the highest seat number, or working
counter clockwise until someone accepts the cut (see below).
The cards shall then be cut by placing the cutting card into the stack at least
ten (10) cards in from either end (see below).
21 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
The dealer will then take all the cards in front of the cut card and place them
to the back of the stack.
5. Cushion
The dealer shall then cut approximately 26 cards into the back of the shoe. The
stack of cards shall then be placed into the shoe for the commencement of play.
22 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
6. Burn Card
Remove the first card from the shoe and turn face up on the table.
Always burn the first card out of the shoe after a shuffle.
Burn an additional number of cards, face down, to the value of the exposed
card.
23 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
7. Cut Card
the dealer will announce “second last coup of the shoe” and complete the deal.
One more coup will then be dealt and the shoe will be finished.
If the cutting card appears as the first card for a new coup, the dealer will
announce “last coup of the shoe”. One more hand will be dealt and then the
remaining cards will be stripped from the shoe and placed in the discard rack.
Please note – When dealing onboard ships, the cards will have to be pre-shuffled once
the table is opened and the first shoe has been dealt. All above procedures will remain
the same except the cards can not be shown to the first player before play on the table
begins (from shoe 2 of the day onwards).
There shall be two hands dealt in the game of Baccarat; one of which shall be "Player's
Hand" and the other, the "Banker's Hand".
At the commencement of each round of play, the dealer, before drawing any cards, will
announce "No More Bets".
The dealer shall pull the initial four cards from the shoe. The first and third cards are the
Player’s hand; the second and fourth cards are the Banker’s hand. The layout consists of
the words Player and Banker in large type with a line between.
Dealer’s Float
24 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
The first card drawn will go to the Player and is placed on the right of the
Player’s side (1).
The second card drawn will be the Banker’s and placed in the right of the
Banker side (2).
The third card will go to the Player and placed on the left of the Player’s side
(3), and
the fourth card will go to the Banker on the left of the Banker’s side (4).
If a third card is to be dealt to either hand it goes to the inside of the original
cards at a 90-degree angle.
Following the announcement of the point counts of the Player's and Banker's hand, the
dealer may be required to deal a third card to one or both hands. This will be
determined by the rules laid down in the tableau (third card rule).
Any third card required shall be dealt face up, first to the Player's hand and then the
Banker's hand (when applicable).
In no event shall more than one additional card be dealt to either hand.
25 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
If the point count of either the Player's hand or the Banker's hand, after the initial two
cards are dealt to each is an eight (8) or nine (9), the hand shall be called a “natural” and
no more cards shall be dealt to either hand.
Banker must stand on six (6) or seven (7) when a player has six (6) or seven (7) on
the initial deal.
Banker must draw on zero to five (0 – 5) when a player stands on six (6) or seven
(7) on the initial deal.
As previously outlined, the Banker Pair and Player Pair side bets will have been
determined after the first four (4) cards are dealt. At this time, the dealer will collect
from right to left, all loosing bets.
1. If there is a winning “Pair” side bet, the payout of 11:1 will be made in front of the
float tray (wherever there is room away from the cards) per bet, and then paid from
right to left. For each winning bet paid, it is to be immediately passed off to the
applicable guest for 2 reasons:-
a. to leave the Tie bet area uncluttered (which is dealt with afterwards), and
Once the final outcome of the hand has been determined, the order of collecting losing
bets and paying winning bets is:-
2. Take all losing Banker or Player bets and Tie hands from right to left. The dealer
will collect all losing bets on any given bet (from right to left) at the same time, so as to
leave less exposed losing funds on the table.
3. Pay all winning Player's hands or Banker hands from right to left.
26 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
4. When the Banker wins on a six (6), all bets are to be stepped so the Supervisor can
clearly see them and the dealer demonstrates that only 50% of the wager is paid. Each
hand is then to be paid separately.
The general rule for accuracy and speed is to size/match into a single colored bet where
no commission (i.e. Banker’s total is not 6) is extracted.
If the player is betting in two colors and the chips are less than five (5) each, step the bet,
drop cut the higher denomination chips. With the opposite hand, pick up a sufficient
quantity of lower denomination chips. With this same hand, pick up the dropped cut
higher denomination chip(s) and size into the bet.
Prior to the payment of bets which include 3 or more denominations and/or on VIP
tables with higher limits, the bet will be stepped with a clean hand. Payments of three
or more denominations will be broken in front of the tray, the total called out loudly, the
chips stacked up, and then placed, stepped, next to the bet.
Customers may not make new bets until all winning bets have been paid.
A winning bet made on the Player Pair or Banker Pair bet (decided by the first 4
initial cards) shall be paid off at odds of 11 to 1.
A winning wager made on the Player's hand shall be paid off at odds of 1 to 1
(even money).
27 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
A winning wager made on the Banker's hand shall be paid off at odds of 1 to 1
(even money), except that a charge of 50% shall be extracted on the amount won,
when the winning value of the Banker’s total was 6. Each hand is to be paid
separately.
The commission will simply be extracted from the payment by the dealer,
before the bet is paid.
Bets, of any value (e.g. $6, $66, etc) of $5 to a maximum of $500 can be accepted.
Allowable Wagers
All wagers at Baccarat shall be made by placing gaming chips on the appropriate
areas of the table layout.
An “EGALITE’” (or Tie bet) shall win if the point counts of the Banker's hand and
the Player's hand are equal.

if disclosed, is placed back under the lip of the shoe. A “dummy coup” will
then be dealt, using this card as the first card of the deal.
All guests’ bets are to be removed and one hand will be dealt following procedure.
These cards will then be discarded. Play may now recommence and the dealer can
accept bets again.
if the card is not exposed it will become the first card of the next coup.
Irregularities
If a card appears face up in the shoe during a coup, it will continue to be used.
If a face up card appears as the first card of a new coup, a “dummy coup” will be
dealt using that card as the first card dealt.
If there are insufficient cards remaining in the shoe to complete the round of play,
that round shall be void and the cards re-shuffled.
In the event that that any foreign card that does not form part of the set of cards
is found in the progress of a game, the coup shall be considered void.

The outcomes of all previous games will stand. The cards in use shall be removed
from the table and new cards shall be put into play.
Table signage indicates that seats are for players only but in quiet periods, it is
entirely feasible that a guest is seated at the table and not playing/watching friend,
etc. As is already practice, the Supervisor should deal with this situation by
anticipating any potential issue and addressing it before it can escalate.
The Supervisor should politely explain to the guest that seats are reserved for players,
but whilst the casino is quiet, he/she is welcome to remain seated. This guest should
be advised that if the level of business increases, he/she may be asked to vacate the
seat.
After the dealer announces “no more bets”, no wager may be placed, increased
or withdrawn - additional action will be refused. It is the dealer’s responsibility to
control any actions of this nature.
The dealer will pick up the Player’s hand first, starting with the original two cards.
The Banker’s original two cards will then be collected.
Next will be the Player’s hit card followed lastly with the Banker’s hit card.
When proving a hand, the Supervisor should be called and asked to lay the cards out in
the following order:

Dealer Responsibility
The two most important aspects of the dealer's responsibility are professionalism and
game security.
Professionalism instills confidence in the players and makes them comfortable at our
games. Game security protects us, our customers and our jobs.
In the game of Baccarat, the dealer is under the primary authority of the Supervisor. The
dealer is responsible for the overall conduct of the game according to the rules and
regulations as set forth in these procedures. The dealer is responsible for keeping the
Supervisor fully informed on the operation of the game and is also responsible for
informing the Supervisor immediately should any mistakes occur.
Under no circumstances is the dealer to make any decision on the game; any corrections
of errors must be under the direction of the Supervisor.
Payout Table
Player Pair/Banker Pair winning bets pay 11 to 1 odds. The payout should be handed off
to the player/s that won.
Even money, odds of 1 to 1, on all winning bets with the exception of the Banker winning
on a total of 6. On this occasion, the odds will be 1 to 2, or 50% bet commission.
Bet Commission is 50% only when the Banker wins on the value of 6.
Please note: - if the bet is not immediately obvious, the dealer is forced to step the bet
to determine the bet amount and calculate the consequent payment (50% of bet), the
payment should be proven in front of the float.
When making up the payout, the lowest denomination chips should be taken from the
float first. The bet should be made up in a row in front of your float, keeping all
denominations separate so as to prove the payout to the Supervisor. The payout should
then be collected and handed off to the bet.

Game Security – Watching The Game & Managing Customers – What To Look Out For
No other game in the casino is more susceptible to attack from cheaters than Baccarat.
The size and shape of the table, as well as the way the game is played, allow a number of
different avenues for assaulting the casino’s bankroll. Following is a list of factors that
contribute to Baccarat’s vulnerability:
The shape and size of the Midi-Baccarat (and larger Mini-Baccarat) tables position
the game for cheating tactics such as “pinching and pressing” (increasing or
decreasing bets illegally), primarily around the far corner positions.
(Although not relevant to business onboard, the volume of wagers and high wager
limits, and the lack of hand strategy options (players are limited to the third card
rule), makes the game attractive to false shuffle scams).
Because guests can handle the cards at the Midi table versions, the game is open
to “hand mucking” (card switching) and card marking. Hence the reason for
automatic shufflers and cards being destroyed every shoe at these tables.
Because players can only touch Baccarat cards at big table or Midi games, it has
generally been accepted that these games are the only form of Baccarat that cards
can be marked by players at the table. In most casinos worldwide, Baccarat cards
that are handled or ‘squeezed’ are dealt through only once, with immediate deck
replacement before the next shuffle. This procedure resulted from high limit players
“mutilating” or severely bending cards while peeking at the hands, rendering the
cards unusable.
At one time, it was the shift manager’s discretion whether or not cards should be
changed prior to the next shuffle. Today, procedure usually dictates that cards used
in the previous shoe must be changed regardless of their visual condition and
appearance, primarily for game protection reasons. Remember, touched cards can
always be marked. When given the option to remove touched cards from play, it is
always wise to do so.
34 | P a g e
Non Commission Baccarat – Dealer Procedure Manual
Even though players never touch the cards in Mini Baccarat, don’t rule out the
possibility of marked cards. Mini Baccarat games have been attacked in the past by
marking the card that lies on top of the discard holder. Information about the value
of the top card of the discard holder is gained while the played hand is still exposed
on the table. A cheat will wait until a 7, 8 or 9 is exposed on the table as the last
banker card, and will mark that key card after the dealer places it in the discard
holder.
This is done by positioning a cheating player at the last table position to the dealer’s
right, adjacent to the discard holder. When the dealer’s attention is distracted by
another cheating player sitting at the first or second table position, the cheater
closest to the discard holder simply reaches in and daubs the top card with his/her
finger. This is usually done under the cover of the Baccarat tracking card, which
shields the overt move from direct observation by the casino’s surveillance cameras.
Many casinos were attacked by this card marking scam in the 1990s; many have
since purchased plastic covers for their Mini-Baccarat discard holders. This game
protection device allows the dealer to insert used cards into the holder through a
narrow slot at the top of the cover.
