WHAT WOULD YOU CORRECT IN PAKISTAN IF GIVEN THE CHANCE?

The biggest business in the world is religion, make us all scared of God and to not question
anything or anyone. Children are made to study Pakistan Studies in their schools mandatorily so that they
are taught that Pakistan was made by the efforts of Muslims in the name of Islam. However, that is
exactly all what happened, Pakistan was made for any minority that wanted to live peacefully, there
weren’t conditions when Qaid-e-Azam in 1947 who played a vital part in the creation of Pakistan gave his
speech to the constituent assembly he said

“Therefore, we must learn a lesson from this. You are free; you are free to go to your
temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of
Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business
of the State.”

Now this clearly states that state should not meddle with religion but is this the way Pakistan is
now? Not at all! It’s ironic how we can change history as we see fit, making others believe in lies and
hypocrisy and even more ironic is the fact that if there is something that we do not like, we, Pakistanis
simply choose to ignore it and not acknowledge it as if it was never there or we will manipulate it so that
we can understand it to our liking. In Balochistan, Pakistan Studies textbooks (English edition), his same
part of speech that he gave to the constituent assembly in 1947 is written as:

“You are free, whether you want to go to temples, mosques or other places of worship, you
are absolutely free. Whatever your religion or caste may be, the affairs of the state shall not be
affected. We are heading forward with the basic principle that we are equal citizens of one state. I
believe we must adhere to this principle, and you shall see that that there would be no
discrimination between the Hindus and the Muslims in terms of equal political rights.”

I believe we have taken the phrase we can make history a bit too literally because we have the
guts to put false words under quotation marks. It makes me sad to say this but Qaid-e-Azam created
Pakistan for minorities but the majority in those minorities are imbeciles who cannot even grasp the
vision of the Pakistan Qaid-e-Azam had in mind.

Then came the great General Zia Ul Haq came and deposed the then prime minister Zulfiqar Ali
Bhutto and imposed martial law but martial law was not all that he imposed, he was a supporter of radical
Islam. He belonged to a very religious family in fact his father who had also served in the army was
called by the name “Molvi” because of his strong religious beliefs. General Zia took steps to ensure a
Islamic state flourished. He created sharia courts, appointed about ten thousand people from the jamat-e-
islami in public offices so that even after his death his ideology would go on to thrive.

To this very day we are being adversely effected by General Zia’s decisions and laws. H has
confused us to an extent that we have lost our identity. Zia used religion as shield and a sword he shielded
his actions and decisions stating it was Islam and he punished anyone who stood in his way stating that he
was coming in the way of Islam. Pakistani people have never been intellectual, we are emotional people
who are manipulated very easily, it is a shame but it the truth, so we just stood by and watched. People
who did oppose his decisions were considered opposing Islam and if you are opposing Islam, you are
opposing Pakistan, hence a traitor you become.

Zia was just a typical greedy leader who promised elections in 90 days and never delivered, Zia
also stated that the Shariah Court that came to being under his supervision which can challenge other laws

if they aren’t up to Islamic standards cannot challenge martial law hence protecting his tenure as the
sovereign. It was in his time that the Pakistani army amended their law that they not only will defend
Pakistan geographically but also will defend the “ideological boundaries”. He changed the landscape of
Pakistan’s politics forever, including religion has confused the people. It bred extremism in the minds of
the people. Sure people were already demanding some closure to Islam but it was because of the mullahs
who kept giving false pretense to the people who believed in them. Dealing with them required educating
the people of Pakistan in such a way that they understand that religion is an individual thing, a personal
one.

A country should be run on moral grounds not on religious beliefs because a country never has
only one religious group but many. If given the chance to correct one thing in Pakistan, I would like to
have never implemented such an imprudent ideology of Islamization or I would at least abolish it and
focus on educating the people of Pakistan so that Pakistanis can relearn and get out of the currently
brainwashed reality that they reside in which will get them nowhere in life. Zia’s appeal and incentives to
the radical mullahs and his hand over them has adversely effected the people of Pakistan. We need to
jump start our brains and think about what is happening around us before it is too late. Opt for tolerance
rather than extremism.
