Pubic Lice
Pubic Lice
Pubic lice, also known as crabs, are very small insects that infest your genital area. There are
three types of lice that infest humans:
pediculus humanus capitis: head lice
pediculus humanus corporis: body lice
phthirus pubis: pubic lice
Pubic lice are typically transmitted through intimate contact, including sexual intercourse. It’s
also possible to catch pubic lice by using the blankets, towels, sheets, or clothing of people who
have pubic lice.
People with pubic lice often experience itching in their genital region or anus about five days
after the initial infestation. At night, the itching will become more intense. Other common
symptoms of pubic lice include:
low-grade fever
irritability
lack of energy
pale bluish spots near the bites
BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a vaginal infection caused by bacteria. It is the most common cause
of abnormal vaginal discharge that occurs in reproductive-age women (women who have not
gone through menopause yet).
Bacterial vaginosis may cause a "fishy" odor and cause vaginal irritation in some women. Others
may not have any symptoms.
Off-white, grey or greenish color vaginal discharge (fluid).
Discharge that smells "fishy."
"Fishy" smell that is strongest after sex or during the menstrual cycle.
Rarely, an itchy or sore vagina.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). HPV is a different virus
than HIV and HSV (herpes). There were about 43 million HPV infections in 2018, many among
people in their late teens and early 20s. There are many different types of HPV. Some types can
cause health problems including genital warts and cancers. But there are vaccines that can stop
these health problems from happening.
You can get HPV by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has the virus. It is most
commonly spread during vaginal or anal sex. HPV can be passed even when an infected person
has no signs or symptoms.
High risk HPV may not present with any symptoms. Without treatment, however, it can cause
several cancers, including the following:
cervical
vaginal
vulvar
oropharyngeal
anal
GENITAL HERPES
Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus
(HSV). Sexual contact is the primary way that the virus spreads. After the initial infection, the
virus lies dormant in your body and can reactivate several times a year.
Genital herpes can cause pain, itching and sores in your genital area. But you may have no signs
or symptoms of genital herpes. If infected, you can be contagious even if you have no visible
sores.
There's no cure for genital herpes, but medications can ease symptoms and reduce the risk of
infecting others. Condoms also can help prevent the spread of a genital herpes infection.
