In contemporary society, everyone should have equal opportunities in education.

Therefore, universities
should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree
or disagree?

In today’s modern world many students immediately join university college post their graduation.
However, the intake of students based on gender is inappropriate and gender inequality plays an
important role in the development of various countries across the globe. I disagree with the statement
that equal numbers of male and female students should be admissible in every course.

To start with, having equal intake of male and female students for a specific degree course is unrealistic.
Applications for the subject depends on personal choices and interests that each gender has and they
cannot be forced to pursue a degree in which they are not interested just to fulfill the quota of
universities on the basis of gender. In reality, many courses are popular with one gender than other. For
instance, mechanical engineering will be pursued majorly my male students as compared to females.
Additionally, female applicants would prefer to choose teaching or nursing as a subject because of their
calm and polite behavior. In such cases, it will be difficult for the universities to fill the rest fifty percent
with the opposite gender.

Apart from the practical concerns it will be unfair to discriminate on the grounds of gender.  In
education, as in sports or business, people with talent should be given opportunities. In this way, men
and women will have equal chances and applicants will be successful in their endeavors. If universities
were required to split their classes according to gender, there would almost certainly be a few talented
people who were not able to attend because some less talented person of the opposite gender was
picked instead. It is important that educational institutions select students based on abilities rather than
their identity as a male or female.

In conclusion, unity in diversity plays an important role not only in corporate organizations but also in
colleges to accept students according to their area of interests. This will help in the progress of various
work profiles in future for the society as a whole.
