Safety Precautions for Rotators
1 All persons working with the Rotator must be informed where all the
emergency stops for the Rotator are located.

2 Never get under suspended loads!

3 Never exceed the maximum permissible load for the Rotator (see data
plate).

4 Stay away from the Rotator’s moving parts when working!

5 Do not connect or disconnect electrical equipment with the current on.

6 Do not alter the hydraulic pressure settings made by qualified staff.

7 Only use the Rotator for it’s intended purpose!

8 Keep all electrical and hydraulic components in good condition.

9 Check all the threaded connections on the Rotator daily!

10 Check daily that the Rotator is free from external damage.

11 Maintenance work on the Rotator is to be carried out with extreme care by

staff who are fully aware of all the risks associated with the functions and
movements of the Rotator.

12 Mobile work platforms which are used in repair and service work on the
Rotator must be equipped with safety rails and kick plates.

13 It is incumbent on the operator in charge of the crane to restrict the

movements of the crane when repair or service work is being performed on a
crane-mounted Rotator.

Test procedure when Rotator first
arrives at site
1. Connect Rotator to crane wires. Hoist it to approximately 0,5 m off the
ground.

2. Inspect the outside of the rotator for visible damage. Dismantle main cover
and inspect inside.

3. Connect the power supply plug to the socket on top.

4. Check oil level in tank. If the tank is empty see section ”Starting up from
empty”. Start the electric motor which drives the hydraulic pump. Check
direction of the motor rotation, clockwise and counter clockwise.
If the hook is rotating in the opposite direction than desired, reverse the
R + T wires in the ASA-breaker. Access until the electrical circuits is gained
through the panel in the electrical cabinet on the side of the rotator.

6. Test all functions of the Rotator.

a) If valve is not energised, the rotator is free to swivel.
b) Energise the valve to check that the rotator moves in both directions.
Note that solenoid valves can be manually operated if required. This is
achieved by pushing the valve at the end of the solenoid with a small
screw driver.
C) Check that the Rotator turns at approximately 3 R.P.M. The speed is
carefully set at the factory before delivery and normally later adjustments
are not necessary. (For speed adjustment see detailed hydraulic
instructions).

6. Check all fittings to ensure that there are no oil leaks.

7. Check that all lifting, and pulley axles are securely located.

8. Service and lubrication should be carried out in accordance with

drg. 33432.

Hydraulic instructions
Components used in the hydraulic installation and the layout is shown on drg.
17327.

General description
PUMP
Pump used is a gear-pump, capable of delivering 6 litre / min at a pressure of
180 bar.

TANK
The tank (capacity 55 l) is fitted with an pressurised air breather/filler cap
(operating at ± 0,14 bar).

MOTOR
The hydraulic power pack drives a Radial piston, hydraulic motor. This motor
is able to deliver high torque at low speeds.

Pressure settings
1. Pump running pressure to be set as described on drg.17327 to120 bar when
the Rotator is against mechanical stop. If the rotation is unlimited
(fitted with sliprings), this stop can be achieved by inserting a suitable steel
plate between the meshing gears.

2. The pressure is adjusted by turning the screw on the shock relief valve
located under the directional control valve on the motor.

Starting up from empty
1. Check that tank is clean before filling.

2. Fill the hydraulic motor through drain connection at the top.

3. Check that the electric motor is rotating in the correct direction.

4. Check shock valves as described in section ”Pressure settings”.

5. Check rotation speed. The speed is adjusted by turning the screw on the
flow restrictor valve (on the valveblock placed between the pump and the
motor).
Start the pump and activate the El-valve on the hydraulic motor and adjust
the flow restrictor valve to the desired speed (approx. 3 R.P.M). The speed
is adjustable from 1-5 R.P.M.
