WHAT IS CHIPKO MOVEMENT..?
The Chipko movement or chipko andolan, was a forest
conservation movement in India.

Chipko means basicallly tree hugging or "embrace" as the


villagers hugged trees.

Locally it is called as Angwal.

The movement is best known for its tactic of hugging trees to


prevent them being cut down and to prevent commercial
timber harvesting.
ORIGIN :

The movement began in 1973 in Uttarakhand.

Birth place : Gopeshwar in District Chamoli in Uttarakhand..

First chipko action took place in March 1974 in Reni village.
