Exploratory Factor Analysis on Perception of Middle-Income Consumers to

Architectural Services in Davao City

The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) is, an organization of professional and

licensed architect, hoping to change the widespread perception that architects are not

important when building a house or any structure at all (Planning to build a house?

Here’s why you need an architect - BusinessWorld, 2020). They launched an advocacy

campaign slogan, “for your plans and designs, get an architect” which aim to stimulate

and educate the Philippine society of an architect’s services. Due to lack of available

literature, this paper aims to assess Filipinos' perception regarding the professional

services offered by registered and licensed architects, specifically the middle-income

earners. Their purchasing capacity and demographics make them a good subject to

answer the questions such as "why many Filipinos are not familiar with an Architect's

services?", "why Filipinos would consult a contractor or an engineer in designing their

homes?", and "how a typical Filipino perceive the value of an Architect?". This paper will

be a benchmark for further studies such as strategic planning that the United Architect

of the Philippines may implement to improve the practices of the architectural

profession; policy making that the Professional Regulatory Commission – Board of

Architecture may set to strengthen the values of the profession; and the curriculum
requirement by the Commission on Higher Education to uplift the standards of

education in architecture school.
