Senior Product Manager, Elsevier – New York, NY (07/2013-12/2015)

Elsevier is the world’s largest provider of scientific, technical, and medical information. It is a multibillion dollar company.
Scopus is one of Elsevier’s fastest growing flagship products. It is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-
reviewed scholarly literature with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. During my tenure, Scopus achieved
double-digit annual growth and revenues more than doubled into a $100 million business.

Initiated business case and led development of new social media analytics (altmetrics) platform (01/2014-12/2015)
• Co-initiated bottom-up strategy team with stakeholders from all major business units and led buy, build, or partner
analysis; pitch to senior management resulted in 50% assignment to lead project
• Grew London-based team who delivered Elsevier’s first production Spark big data analytics platform
• In parallel, led multiple front end teams to release Scopus Article Metrics dashboard on the new platform (07/2015)
• Drove business case through approval of CXO-level Investment Review Board and led start of execution phase to roll
out new metrics across all major Elsevier platforms (e.g. ScienceDirect, Mendeley, and Elsevier.com)

Drove Author Feedback Wizard customer support application from concept to launch and grew it into a commercially
valuable product suite and shared service (2010-2015)
• Automated >50% of requests to cut processing from ~4 weeks to <48 hours (2010-2014)
• Helped win hundreds of thousands in new business for Elsevier’s Analytical Services group and secured the
Portuguese market for Scopus and SciVal when Scopus2ORCID Wizard was chosen for national assessment (2013)
• Built custom application to support multimillion dollar Spanish renewal; scaled team; and migrated to cloud (2014)

• Released API to support inline integration on all major Elsevier platforms and strategic 3 -party applications (2015)

Helped grow Scopus team from 2 product managers to product director and 6 product managers (2013-2015)
• Recruited 2 product managers; helped adopt Prodpad for idea management; saw team through transition from
waterfall to agile; trained and mentored 2 new product managers; and consulted in managing portfolios

Significant contributor to Mendeley acquisition (2013-2015)


• Built foundational relationships including Elsevier’s first collaboration with Mendeley when retiring 2collab social
bookmarking site in 2011 and second interaction ever in 2009
• Provided Scopus, SciVal, and altmetrics integration roadmaps for the acquisition case
• Led Scopus integration post-acquisition (e.g. direct export & readership statistics)

Led Scopus user-experience and tools initiatives (09/2009-05/2014)
• Initiated and led team in comprehensive redesign of Scopus.com resulting in NPS jump; personally led redesign of
top features including a new Author Profile that increased page engagement ~25% (2013-2014)
• Product lead for internationalization and Japanese localization from business case to go-to-market; complex, year-
long project was on-time and budget; met all targets for NPS, usage, and revenue growth (2012-2013)
• Built top new features including popular Analyze Search Results tool (2011-2012)
• Integrated SciVerse gadget framework and collaborated with external developers on apps (2010-2012)
• Launched company’s first Android mobile app and in-app payments (2010-2011)
• Top and only product team recognized for contributions to sales with Special Recognition Award (2011)
