1. Search the web for the definition of the following:
a) Descriptive Statistics
 Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the data in a study.
They provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures. Together
with simple graphics analysis, they form the basis of virtually every quantitative
analysis of data. With descriptive statistics you are simply describing what is or
what the data shows.
b) Inferential Statistics
 The sample is a set of data taken from the population to represent the population.
Probability distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation testing and regression
analysis all fall under the category of inferential statistics

2. Provide at least two examples for descriptive statistics and two examples for
inferential statistics.
 Descriptive statistics
- The mean salary of a random sample of 50 high school teachers in 2019 was
$54,820.
- The median rating of AC’s Burger from 30 on a scale from 1 to 10 is 8.4.
 Inferential statistics
- Based on a survey, teenagers loves to shop online is 85%.
- In 2035, Baguio City’s population is expected to 498,525.

3. What is the main difference between descriptive and inferential statistics?

 Descriptive statistics describes data (for example, a chart or graph) and inferential
statistics allows you to make predictions (“inferences”) from that data. With
inferential statistics, you take data from samples and make generalizations about
a population
