Mineral Resources

• A mineral is a pure inorganic substance

that occurs naturally in the earth's crust.
Mineral resources are non-renewable.
MINERALS

• Although Bangladesh is a small country, it

has several mineral resources such as natural
gas, oil, coal, hard rock, limestone, white
clay, glass sand and mineral sand. At present,
natural gas is the only mineral commodity
significantly contributing to the national
economy

• Let's look into each of their uses carefully.

• Coal – Production of Energy, Spirit and
Bitumen
• Oil – Energy and fuel for automobile
• Gas – Electricity production, Fuel Industries
and Industrial raw materials

Metallic Resources

• Copper - it's an excellent electrical

conductivity, copper's most common use is
in electrical equipment such as wiring and
motors. Because it corrodes slowly, copper is
used in roofing, guttering, plumbing and in
cookware and cooking utensils.
Non-metallic
Resources

• Limestone – cement, steel, glass,

paper, bleaching powder and
construction work.
• China Clay - manufacturing utensils,
electric insulators & sanitary wares
• Silica sand - glass, chemical and
paints
Location of Energy resources
• Gas - Currently there are 29 natural gas fields in Bangladesh. The first gas field was
discovered at Haripur, Sylhet in 1955 and the last gas field was discovered in the
2017 at Bhola. Some examples-
❖Titas gas field in Brahmanbaria
❖Bibiyana gas field in Habiganj
❖Bakhrabad gas field in Cumilla
❖Meghna gas field in Narsingdi

• Oil – Only one oil field is discovered so far in Haripur, Sylhet.

• Coal - Five major coal fields are found in Bangladesh.

❖ Jamalganj (Joypurhat), Barapukuria (Dinajpur),Khalashpir (Rangpur),Dighipara
(Dinajpur) and Phulbari (Dinajpur).
