SPSS: KRUSKAL-WALLIS TEST
 Example: Following data is obtained to establish relationship
between Radio-Frequency Generator and Etch rate. Perform
ANOVA

RF Power Observed Etch Rate

(w) 1 2 3 4 5
160 575 542 530 539 570
180 565 593 590 579 610
200 600 651 610 637 629
220 725 700 715 685 710

Etching:
The act or process of making designs or pictures on a metal plat e,g.
glass, etc., by the corrosive
(destructive) action of an acid instead of by a burin (steel tool).

EXAMPLE
 An agricultural experiment was conducted to test the effect on

yield due to change of treatment. The results are given below:

A 7.4 D 8.9 E 5.8 B 12.0 C 14.3

C 11.8 B 6.5 A 8.7 E 7.6 D 7.9
D 10.1 C 17.9 B 9.0 E 8.8 E 7.1
E 8.8 A 10.1 C 15.7 D 11.1 B 7.4
B 11.8 A 8.5 D 14.3 C 18.4 A 10.1

•Perform analysis of variance and find out if the effects on yield are
significant.
•Apply Duncan’s Multiple Range Test if necessary.
COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED
DESIGN
 The effective life of insulating fluids at an accelerated
load of 35 kV is being studied. Test data have been
obtained for four types of fluids. The results from a
completely randomized experiment were as follows:

Fluid Life (in h) at 35 kV Load

Type
1 17.6 18.9 16.3 17.4 20.1 21.6
2 16.9 15.3 18.6 17.1 19.5 20.3
3 21.4 23.6 19.4 18.5 20.5 22.3
4 19.3 21.1 16.9 17.5 18.3 19.8
COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED
DESIGN
 Is there any indication that fluids differ? Use
alpha = 5%.

 Which fluid would you select, given that the

objective is long life?

 Are the basic ANOVA assumptions satisfied?

 Use the Kruskal-Wallis test for the experiment

and compare the results obtained in part 1.
RANDOMIZED COMPLETE
BLOCK DESIGN
 The experimental material is divided into groups or
blocks

 Each block consists of approximately homogeneous

units

 Each block contains a complete set of treatments

 The treatments are assigned randomly to the

experimental units
RANDOMIZED COMPLETE
BLOCK DESIGN (RCBD)
 Layout of RCBD with five treatments

Block Treatments

1 A C D B E

2 D A E C B

3 B C A E D

4 C D A E B
EXAMPLE: YIELD OF BEANS
Four different kinds of fertilizers
f1, f2, f3, and f4 are used to study
the yield of beans. The soil is
divided into three blocks, each
containing homogeneous plots.
The yield in pound per acre and
the corresponding treatments are
as follows:
EXAMPLE: YIELD OF BEANS
Block Block Block
1 2 3

f1 = 42.7 f3 = 50.9 f4 = 51.1

f2 = 48.5 f1 = 50.0 f2 = 46.3

f4 = 32.8 f2 = 38.0 f1 = 51.9

f3 = 39.3 f4 = 40.4 f3 = 53.5

Conduct an analysis of variance using

an appropriate design. Use alpha = 1%
