TARGET GROUP
The target group for CRO Emergency
Response Competence Assessment are
personnel who have been deemed ready by
their employer to be formally assessed in the
role of a CRO during an emergency situation.
PREREQUISITES
Attendees should be READY to undergo
immediate Assessment and be either:
A “Pre-Assessment Company Guide &
Declaration” sent by the Training Provider
must be completed and returned by the
Client Company.
TECHNICAL &
LOCATION REQUIREMENTS
To achieve optimum training quality and
effectiveness to meet the expected OPITO
Standard the DELEGATE must ensure he has
working computer hardware and software
available and tested for use at their location
BEFORE the Assessments are to take place:
• Reliable broadband internet access at appropriate
speed for the Zoom video conferencing
• Immediate Email and Telephone access
• PC/Mac with Browser – Google Chrome preferred
• Minimum Display Resolution 1366 x 768 (prefer
1920 x 1080)
• Microphone, Speaker and Video Camera
compatible with ZOOM
• Free ZOOM software downloaded and tested
before Assessment. Delegate must be familiar
with basic use of ZOOM.
• Link to the Trident Virtual Command Centre
simulator will be issued for familiarisation pre-
assessment
• The delegates should be in a professional
environment during the assessment such as
company site or asset, not private residence

NO TRAVEL TO A TRAINING CENTRE IS REQUIRED
COURSE OUTLINE
The aim and objective of the CRO Emergency Response
Competence Assessment are to formally assess the
candidate in the role of the CRO during an emergency situation
in a simulated environment.
The Assessments are conducted using a simulator of the
Candidate’s own Asset Type using the candidate’s own
Procedures. Realistic emergency scenarios must cover:
1. Threat to life
2. Threat to environment
3. Threat to plant and equipment
Scenarios are prepared using relevant information from the
Client Company Safety Case and Emergency Response Plan
for the candidate’s appropriate asset type(s).
The CRO ER Competence units and elements are:
Module 1 Control Emergencies and Critical Situations
Element 1.1 Maintain a State of Readiness
Element 1.2 Control Critical Situations
Element 1.3 Respond to Emergencies
There are no specific timings for the duration of the CRO ER
assessments. However, sufficient time must be arranged in
order to ensure that candidates can be suitably assessed
during a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 attempts.
NOTE: Companies and Candidates sometimes prefer a PREPARATION
Training Option to undertake before Assessment. A ‘PREPARATION COURSE’
is available to refresh skills, increase confidence, understanding and fully
prepare candidates PRIOR to the OPITO Assessment process. This has proven
a highly valuable and appreciated initiative to many candidates. Inquire with
