Chemical Digestion

 HCL is the activator for pepsinogen and converts it into pepsin as an active enzyme
 Carbs get chem. Broken down in mouth and protein gets chem. Broken down in stomach
 Pepsin breaks down long amino acid change > short amino acid chain
 Pepsin works in a more acidic environment than amylase
 Pepsin is the only enzyme in the stomach
 By the end of the duodenum, all macromolecules must be in their monomer form
 Not all of the enzymes are made in the duodenum
 The pancreas manufactures pancreatic amylase in the pancreas that continues salivary amylase in the mouth
and act on the starch, smaller chains and breaks them down into maltose which are disaccharides
 Trypsin continues for pepsin in the stomach and breaks down long polypeptides into short polypeptides
 Lipase breaks down triglycerides that the bile physically broke down and breaks down fat into fatty acids and
glycerol
 Erepsin is manufactured in the pancreas and duodenum
