Lesson Plan in Science 8


Quarter 4

I. Learning Competency:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to identify
healthful practices that affect the digestive system. (S8LT–IVc–15)

CSE Integration
Examine how alcohol and other substances, family, peers, media,
society and culture influence decisions about engaging in sexual
behavior (K5D2)

IV. Procedures:
A. Motivation
Ask: Have you ever drunk alcohol? When did you drink alcohol?
With whom were you during that time? Can you still remember
what happened after drinking alcohol? If so, what happened?
Task 1: “Si Jason”
After the sharing of the students’ answers, let the students
watch the video entitled “Si Jason” (refer to the CHSI Video
Package) and answer the following questions:
1. Based on the scenario in the video, what do you think
will happen?

2. What can possibly happen to Jason if he will drink
alcohol with his peers? Ask the students to watch the
two (2) more videos – these videos will give the
students the idea about the consequences if Jason will
get inside the room with the girl and engage in sexual
behavior or the other way around after getting drunk.
3. Based from the videos, is it a good idea to drink
alcohol with your peers/friends? Why or why not?
4. How does alcohol affect one’s ability to make sound -
decisions?

Note to teachers: The teacher needs to establish from


the video the influence of peers and drinking alcohol in
making decision about engaging in sexual behavior
which may lead to a more serious problem.

B. Activity
Task 2: Keeping the Stomach Healthy
Directions:
a. The students will be divided in groups.
b. Each group will be provided with a sheet of manila
paper and a marker.
c. The students will write healthful habits that they are
practicing to prevent digestive system diseases.
d. Each group will choose a representative who will
present the output after 5 minutes.

C. Analysis
Based on the activity, let the students answer the
questions that follow.
a. What are the substances that may affect the digestive
system?
b. What are the healthful practices to keep our digestive
system healthy?
c. How can these practices affect the digestive system?
d. Why is it important to have a healthy digestive system?

D. Abstraction

Healthful Practices Affecting Digestive System


The way the digestive system work has something to do
with your health. In order to keep your digestive system healthy

and work smoothly, it is important for you to know what you
can do to take care of your digestive system. Learn to practice
these habits:
a. Have a balanced diet every day. The food that you eat
should contain the right amount of the different
nutrients needed by the body. Nutrients are chemical
substances which you eat and drink in order to grow
and become healthy. These include vitamins and
minerals, vegetables and fruits, meat and fish
products, cereals and other carbohydrates.

b. Eat regularly and observe the proper time for eating.


When buying ready to eat foods, be sure they come
from covered containers. Uncovered foods are easily
contaminated by bacteria or germs and harmful
insects.

c. Chew the food slowly and well. Relax while eating your
meals. Do not swallow large chunks of food.
d. Do not eat when you are angry, sad or tense. The food
you take in will not be properly digested and may
cause indigestion.

e. Wash uncooked foods thoroughly before eating them.

f. Drink about six to eight glasses of water a day. Lessen


your intake of sweets during snacks. Chocolates,
cakes, and candies may destroy your appetite.

g. Take part in cheerful and relaxing conversation. It will


help stimulate intestinal activity.

h. Enjoy your meal.

i. Have a healthy lifestyle. Avoid vices such as taking


drugs and alcohol. They have bad effects on your body.
They can disturb the function of your body’s organs.
They can also destroy these organs if you have too
much of them.

j. Visit the doctor regularly. Visit your doctor at least


once a year. He can tell you if you are in good health.
He can also tell you how to stay healthy and how to
treat illnesses
Note to teachers:
1. The teacher may elaborate and explain further how
the abovementioned practices can prevent diseases
affecting digestive system like ulcer.
2. The teacher can ask the learners to identify other
healthful practices to prevent diseases affecting
digestive system.

E. Application:
Task 3: Slogan-Making
Directions:
1. In groups, let the students craft a slogan on healthful
practices that affect the digestive system.
2. The slogan will be evaluated using the suggested rubric
scoring guide that follows.

F. Closure
Taking care of our body is our own responsibility and for us to
enjoy life, we have to be physically healthy.

Note to teachers: The teacher can use other tag lines or


slogan based from the outputs of the students in the
application part of the lesson for emphasis.
