Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a
broader term for Information Technology (IT), which refers to all communication

technologies, including the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, computers,
software, middleware, videoconferencing, social networking, and other media
applications and services enabling users to access, retrieve, store, transmit, and
manipulate information in a digital form.
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike
the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals, which involves
consciousness and emotionality.
Examples of online applications using AI: Google maps, conversation
marketing bot
Robotics is the field of computer science and engineering concerned with
creating devices that can move and react to sensory input, it is a form of
artificial intelligence.

Biometrics is a technology used to measure and analyze human body
characteristics such as DNA, fingerprints, eye retinas and irises, voice
patterns, facial patterns, and hand measurements. The main purpose of
biometrics for authentication. Ex.
Computer-assisted translator (CAT) is the use of computers to assist the
translation of one or more natural languages into another, and vice versa.
Ex. Google Translate
Quantum Cryptography is the science of encoding and decoding
information or messages which depends on Physics, not Mathematics. It is
used for information privacy and security.
Cloud computing is the delivery of different services through the Internet.
These resources include tools and applications like data storage, servers,
databases, networking, and software. Instead of keeping files on a hard drive
or flash drive, cloud-based storage makes it possible to save them online. As
long as the device is connected to the internet, the saved date is accessible.

The popularity of smartphones and tablets has taken a major rise over the
years. This is largely because of the devices’ capability to do tasks that were
originally found in personal computers.

Different types of mobile Operating Systems:
1. iOS – used in Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad
2. Android – an open-source operating system developed by Google. Being
open source means several mobile phone companies use this OS for free.
3. Blackberry OS – used in blackberry devices
4. Windows Phone OS – a closed source and proprietary operating system
developed by Microsoft
5. Symbian – the original smartphone OS used by Nokia devices
6. WebOS – originally used for smartphones; now used for smartTVs
7. Windows Mobile – developed by Microsoft for smartphones and pocket

Types of Social Media:
1. Social Networks - sites that allow you to connect with other
people with same interests or background.
Examples: Facebook, Google, LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a social network for the business community.
Founded in 2002, the site is a place for professionals to
connect with past and current colleagues, increase their number of
business connections, network within their industry, discuss
business ideas, search for jobs, and look for new hires.

2. Bookmarking Sites - sites that allow users you to store and
manage links to various websites and resources, and to tag

items or links to other news sources.

4. Media Sharing - sites that allow you to upload and share
media content like images, music, and video.
Examples: Flickr, YouTube, and Instagram
5. Microblogging - sites that focus on short updates from the user.
Those who are subscribed will receive updates.
Examples: Twitter Plurk
6. Blogs and Forums - sites that allow users to post their content.
Examples: Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, Wix, Weebly
E-commerce platform is a collection of software technologies that allows
merchants to create a storefront on the internet. Examples: Zalora, Lazada,
Shopee, eBay. Amazon, etc.
