Med-02- Educational Research Designs, Methods & Publications
1. Why do you think research is important? How it will affect education?
The main purposes of research are to inform action, gather evidence for
theories, and contribute to developing knowledge in a field of study. Every classroom is
different. It is this complexity in which they operate in that provides a compelling reason for
teachers to look more closely into their own teaching practice. One way for them to do so is
to conduct research, right in their own classroom. This need to find out whether a teaching
practice is effective has become more urgent, because student outcomes are now more wide-
ranging. When you think of a broadened set of learning outcomes, you need to broaden your
pedagogies, Increasingly, teachers find themselves faced with new and novel demands, with
no right or existing models to guide them.
The purposes of research in education is that research provides answer to questions of
what, when, how and why of man, social life and institutions. The main purpose is to discover
various facts and their inter relationship and to help us to discard distortions and contribute
to our understanding of reality.
The another purpose of research is to diagnose different problems prevalent in our
society and education system and to make critical and logical analysis of those problems. Our
society has innumerable problems such as poverty, unemployment, economic and gender
inequality, social stratification etc. and these problems put impact on our education system.
The nature and dimensions of such problems have to be diagnosed and analyzed. An analysis
of problems leads to an identification of appropriate remedial actions.
Research provides first hand information about the nature of social and educational
institutions. This knowledge helps us to control over the social phenomena. Research also has
potential to investigate and assess latest needs and level of advancement.
Another important purpose of research is to suggest possible remedial measures and
effective solutions to various problems and challenges. Researchers come up with innovative
and creative strategies and ideas to improve the education system and its associated
components. Researchers can identify the causes of existing evils and problems and thus it
can help in taking appropriate remedial actions.
Instead of reusing the same old teaching strategies that have worked in the past, they
may have to come up with innovative ways of teaching. Not only that, teachers are also
encouraged to come up with their own curriculum initiatives. Researches in education help in
analyzing perceptions, attitudes of students’ teachers, teacher educators, parents and other
stakeholders on different issues related to education sector, local and global environment.
Thus research findings indicate and suggest possible remedies to those issues keeping in mind
the views of stakeholders involved.

2. How is qualitative differ from quantitative research.

What are the advantages and disadvantages? Explain
Quantitative research deals with numbers and statistics, while
qualitative research deals with words and meanings. Quantitative Research is
used to quantify the problem by way of generating numerical data or data that
can be transformed into usable statistics. It is used to quantify attitudes,
opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables – and generalize results from a
larger sample population. Quantitative Research uses measurable data to
formulate facts and uncover patterns in research. Quantitative data collection
methods are much more structured than Qualitative data collection methods.
Quantitative data collection methods include various forms of surveys – online
surveys, paper surveys, mobile surveys and kiosk surveys, face-to-face
interviews, telephone interviews, longitudinal studies, website interceptors,
online polls, and systematic observations. Qualitative research methods have
been used in sociology, anthropology, political science, psychology, social work,
and educational research. Qualitative research  relies on unstructured and non-
numerical . The data include field notes written by the researcher during the
course of his or her observation, interviews and questionnaires, focus groups,
participant-observation, audio or video recordings carried out by the researcher
in natural settings, documents of various kinds (publicly available or personal,
paper-based or electronic records that are already available or elicited by the
researcher), and even material artifacts. The use of these data is informed by
various methodological or philosophical assumptions, as part of various
methods, such as ethnography (of various kinds), discourse analysis (of various
kinds), interpretative phenomenological analysis and other
phenomenological methods.
Quantitative methods allow you to test a hypothesis by systematically collecting
and analyzing data, while qualitative methods allow you to explore ideas and
experiences in depth.
The advantages of Quantitative methods are it allow for definition of
consequences of incidents occurrence in quantitative way. It obtain more
accurate image of risk. While its disadvantages are, quantitative measures must
depending on the scope and accuracy of defines measurement scale. Analysis
results may be not precise and event confusing. Analysis conducted with
application of those methods is generality more expensive, demanding greater
experience and advanced tools.
Qualitative methods advantages are it allows for determination of areas of greater
risk in short time and without bigger expenditures. Analysis is relatively easy and
cheap. The disadvantages are it does not allow for determination of probabilities
and result using numerical measures. Costs benefits analysis is more difficult
during selection of protections. Achieved results have general character,
approximates, etc.

MED 03- Educational Statistics with Software Application

1. How is Statistics important in the field of research and education?

By statistics we mean aggregate of facts affected to a marked

extent by multiplicity of causes, numerically expressed,
enumerated or estimated according to reasonable standard of
accuracy, collected in a systematic manner for a
predetermined purpose and placed in relation to each other. It
helps a lot in gathering data in our research. In education
measurement and evaluation are essential part of teaching
learning process. In this process we obtained scores and
then interpret these score in order to take decisions.
Statistics enables us to study these scores objectively. It
makes the teaching learning process more efficient.

2. The Science test conducted by Mr. Ulysses Dela Cruz with his
Grade- 5 class has the following scores;
14, 13, 8, 7, 15, 14, 9, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 10, 14
Find the central tendency.(mean, median, mode)

Mean: 14+13+8+7+15+14+9+7+9+10+11+12+13+10+14=166
=166/15
=11.066
Median: 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13, 14, 14, 14,15
11 is the median
Mode: 14 is the mode it has the most score got

MED 11- Teaching, Learning Tools & Technology

1. In the new normal education, some are using online learning modality.
How is this effective ?
To respond to the needs of learners, the country have implemented
proactive policies for the continuance of education despite the closure.
These policies include modified forms of online learning that aim to
facilitate student learning activities. Online learning might be in terms of
synchronous, real-time lectures and time-based outcomes assessments, or
asynchronous, delayed-time activities, like pre-recorded video lectures and
time-independent assessments.
As the Philippine’s Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary,
Leonor Briones quipped, “Education must continue even in times of crisis
whether it may be a calamity, disaster, emergency, quarantine, or even
war” (Department of Education, 2020).
Online classes are generally not as effective as in-person classes,
but they are certainly better than no classes. Right now, virtual learning are
allowing students to access lessons and exercises and interact with
teachers in ways that would have been impossible if an epidemic had
closed schools. So we may be skeptical of online learning, but it is also
time to embrace and improve it. We may have lots of problem in the
country such as poor internet connection and not all learners have the
access or capable to have gadgets, these must need a better look of our
government to improve these problem, so that this online learning where
be possible and effective.

2. Technology is everywhere, everything can be found in this.

How do teachers use educational technology?
Technology is very essential especially during this time of pandemic
because it enables us to be of service to our clients and students
regardless of the current situations. Teachers use various platforms of
educational technology such us online platform to facilitate teaching and
learning, these include online class, and application tools. While the
applications and benefits of instructional technology vary widely, all
instructional technology shares one main purpose: to create engaging and
effective learning experiences. And many applications of educational
technology have proved effective at achieving this goal. Experts widely
agree that instructional technology provides many benefits to the
education process, including better access to information, more
opportunities for collaboration, and better capabilities for meeting diverse
learners’ needs.

MED 12- Classroom Motivation & Management

1. Amidst this covid pandemic, what are the ways in motivating your learners?
Explain at least two (2) reasons.
During this time of pandemic my learners are still adjusting to way of
educational system that we are implementing. My learners wanted to have
a face-to-face classes that they think much effective than the distance
learning. As a teacher, I wanted to teach and motivate them to learn despite
of distance learning. In my class I gave them enough time to accomplish all
the task that they can do without pressuring them. I lessen the activities
that they will accomplish for the week. I also invited them to join in virtual
class for those who has access in the internet, message them through our
group chat and even conduct a home visitation for them. These made them
realize that I am here to guide them despite of no face to face classes.

2. The parents or guardians are the teaching facilitators at home, how can you
assure that the learners really learned from the task you’ve given?

Talking to parents is what I am doing, asking them the status of their child,
how his/her child works when accomplishing his/her task. I also tell them
time to time that if they have problems, they just contact me. I also explain
the lesson and tasks of their child before they get their modules. I also
encourage and motivate them to teach their child at home. Through our
group chats both parents and learners I can monitor their progress.
